Caution: Stewart Is on a Streak

BEAVER DAM, WI - June 24, 2017 - In a night full of cautions and chaos, and even a bit of rain after Time Trials, Larson Marks Racing driver Shane Stewart secured a weekend sweep as he took the checkers for the second night in a row, this time at the Jim "JB" Boyd Memorial presented by Karavan Trailers at Beaver Dam Raceway.

Greg Wilson, who led the race for 24 laps, came in just short of the podium as Kerry Madsen charged from the back to come in second with Jason Johnson behind him.

"That was a crazy long race," said Stewart from Victory Lane as the racing wrapped up near 1:00AM.

It was a night full of hardship at the high-banked third-mile. A bit of rain after Time Trials delayed the racing and made for a challenging surface. A number of cautions during the second Heat had the crowd on the edge of their seats and set the tone for the 40-lap Feature. "They're picking them off one by one," said a fan in the backstretch grandstand. "There's too much grip. It's going to be the last man standing."

Greg Wilson came in second in that Heat, in which only four drivers managed to complete all 10 laps, so he was looking at the last row of the Craftsman Club® Dash. A full Dash inversion, with a draw of eight, however, moved him to the front, just outside of Donny Schatz, which is just where he started the Feature. Wilson wasn't about to let that get away from him. He charged out ahead of Schatz in Lap 1.

Schatz got a second chance, just as Stewart got at West Liberty Raceway the night before, but he came out less than victorious.

A caution in Lap 1 forced a restart, and set the field back to its original position. Jac Haudenschild bit the wall in Turn 2 with the Stenhouse Jr./Wood Racing No. 17 and was out of the race.

Wilson took the lead again on the restart, and Stewart passed Schatz for second in Lap 6, starting a battle between them. Unfortunately, the battle resulted in contact between the two drivers that sent the Arctic Cat No. 15 flying into the air before taking several flips on the backstretch with 33 laps to go. Although the Series champ came out unharmed, he was done for the night.

"I've got to say sorry to Donny," said Stewart from Victory Lane. "I didn't mean to get into him. I got backed up there a little bit, and I didn't see him go last minute. He's definitely the last person that you'd ever want to wreck."

Sheldon Haudenschild was the next driver to taste the wall. More and more cautions followed, and while Wilson and Stewart battled it out up front, Kerry Madsen and Jason Johnson made themselves busy, climbing lap after lap and taking advantage of every restart.

Madsen had some challenges earlier in the night. He had a strong lead in his Heat when he spun into the wall between Turns 3 and 4, losing a wheel and limping off into the work area while his car was towed. But he refused to be defeated. He went on to win the Last Chance Showdown and make the Feature, where he started in the 21 spot. Yes, 21. And with only two laps to go, there he was, passing Wilson for second.

For Stewart it was a different kind of second: his second win in just two nights, and his second race with new crew chief Lee Stauffer. Asked what Stauffer has brought to the team, Stewart replied, "Confidence. We just lacked a little bit of that. He has a lot of self confidence, and so has brought a lot to the team. He's a good leader."

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series meets up with the Late Model Series next at the Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL for the FVP Outlaw Clay Classic on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 27 and 28. Tickets are still available online.

Cole Duncan earns Ohio Sprint Speedweek finale victory, Tim Shaffer claims third Speedweek championship

CHILLICOTHE, OH (June 25, 2017) - Ending a near-four year drought, Lockbourne, Ohio’s Cole Duncan is back in Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions victory lane, this time earning the 35th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket finale win at Atomic Speedway over a field of 53 entries. The pilot of the Helms Construction/Motor City Auto Transport/Ohio Heating/No. 22C earned his $5,000 payday from the outside of row three, utilizing a lap 21 restart to take command officially on lap 22 over Muskingum County Speedway winner, Spencer Bayston. Duncan chased Bayston for six circuits before making the winning move, eventually driving under the familiar Kevin Swindell-owned No. 39 through turns three and four.

Duncan’s victory caps off an impressive Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket campaign for the second generation Arctic Cat All Star winner, finishing tied for second in the final Ohio Sprint Speedweek championship standings on the strength of one victory and five top-ten finishes, three of which inside the top-five. Despite ending in a tie, Duncan will be declared the official runner-up due to having a victory over Chad Kemenah.

Spencer Bayston held on to finish second on Saturday night at Atomic Speedway, followed by DJ Foos, Tanner Thorson and Caleb Armstrong.

“Man, I’ve been waiting to talk to you for a long time,” Cole Duncan explained in victory lane. “I just want to thank all of the fans for coming out tonight. It was a near-perfect night for racing. The track was in perfect shape. I’m so glad Brad (McCown) opened this place back up and did what he did. It feels so good to be in victory lane during an All Star event at my home track. This is the first Speedweek I’ve ever completed. I’m so proud of everyone.”

Cole Duncan won the battle on Saturday night, but it was the “Steel City Outlaw” Tim Shaffer who won the war, claiming his third Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket point championship worth $1,000. Shaffer’s Speedweek run ended with two victories, the first at Eldora Speedway and the second at Waynesfield Raceway Park, as well as five top-ten finishes, edging out Cole Duncan and Chad Kemenah in the final Ohio Sprint Speedweek title fight by 14 points.

“This was definitely a whole group effort. They did a great job, which made me look even better than I was,” said Tim Shaffer. “We’re running well at a perfect time of the year. I’m having more fun now than I ever have. They gave me a great car here tonight. We have the engines and the parts; everything we need to be better.”

The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will continue competition with visits to Kokomo (IN) Speedway and Wayne County (OH) Speedway on Friday and Saturday, June 30 and July 1. The Kokomo Speedway program was originally set for Friday, May 19, but was postponed due to Mother Nature. Tony Stewart, three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and Arctic Cat All Star owner, will join the field at Indiana’s baddest bullring; the only Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions appearance in the state of Indiana for 2017. Rico Abreu is the most recent winner during Arctic Cat All Star competition at Kokomo Speedway, earning the 2016 Dirt Classic Indiana worth $12,500.

The upcoming Wayne County Speedway appearance will be the third of five for the Arctic Cat All Stars in 2017, most recently during Ohio Sprint Speedway presented by Cometic Gasket on Monday, June 19. Kyle Larson was the Speedweek winner, his first of two Ohio Sprint Speedweek victories with the second coming one night later at Sharon (OH) Speedway.

SCOTT LUTZ WINS MID-ATLANTIC SPRINT FEATURE ON BECHTELSVILLE CAR WASH NIGHT, RAIN FORCES RESCHEDULING OF MODIFIED FEATURE TO JULY 1 AND SPORTSMAN TO JULY 8

BRC LATE MODELS IN THE LIMELIGHT WITH FIRECRACKER 40 JULY 1ST

BECHTELSVILLE, PA June 25, 2017 . . .It was a down to the checkered flag battle for the top spot with Scott Lutz getting the edge over Tommy Carberry, Jr. on the final lap as Carberry bounced off the wall bringing out the caution flag. Lutz was able to earn the victory in the 25-lap Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series feature race at Grandview Speedway Saturday night. The race, starting 24 Sprint cars, marked the first appearance for the MASS Sprinters at the Bechtelsville oval. Unfortunately rain forced postponement of the TP Trailers 358 Modifieds and Sportsman feature races that were scheduled to be part of Bechtelsville Car Wash Night.

The Modified feature will be added to the Saturday, July 1st Firecracker Night while the Sportsman feature will be added to the July 8th four division show.

Veteran Mark Bitner was able to grab a close second to Lutz in the Sprint feature. Tim Tanner finished third followed by Austin Bishop and Dave Brown.

Sprint qualifying heat races were won by Austin Bishop, Tim Tanner and Steph Carberry while Keith Anderson won a shortened B-Main.

Sportsman qualifying victories were earned by Brad Grim, Ryan Higgs and Jack Butler with point leader Brian Hirthler getting the consolation race victory.

Steve Swinehart won the first Modified qualifier with Jared Umbenhauer and Duane Howard each getting a win. The consolation went to Kevin Hirthler.

Duane Howard was able to take the win in a special Modified Cash Dash sponsored by Bechtelsville Car Wash.

The BRC Late Models will be in the spotlight on Saturday, July 1st as they race in the annual Firecracker 40, the most prestigious event of the season for the Late Models. There will be extra cash for the winner along with the TP Trailers and Truck Equipment bonus. Fans will get to see two NASCAR 358 Modified features with the rained out feature from Saturday June 24th added to the big night that already included a NASCAR Modified feature. In addition the Sportsman stock cars will be racing. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. with racing scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Adult admission is $20 while youngsters 6 thru 11 pay $5 and children under 6 are admitted free.

BLEWETT WINS HARD FOUGHT GSC AT WALL SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Howell’s Jimmy Blewett battled with several top competitors before finally taking the checker flag in the Garden State Classic for Freehold Ford Modified stock cars at Wall Stadium Saturday night. The race has proven to be a special one for the Blewett family as both his father, John Blewett, Jr., and his brother, the late John Blewett III, have won the race in the past. Jimmy Blewett’s Saturday night win was his fourth in the annual summer classic.

Derek Hopkinson of Toms River, who started on the pole by virtue of his fast time in qualifying, was the first leader of the event before he spun from the top spot. This set up a side-by-side battle for the lead between Blewett and Holmdel’s Andrew Krause who was charging in the outside lane. After several laps of dicing Blewett slipped to the lead with North Carolina’s Danny Bohn slipping into second.

Bohn and Krause then chased Blewett through the middle stages of the race before Krause pitted for new right side tires on lap 60. Soon after Blewett and Bohn both pitted for their new tires and that set up a battle to the finish.

The fight for first continued until the lap 90 mark when Krause’s car developed a fluid leak that caused him to loose traction and eventually drop from the contest. Bohn also dropped from the race in this late stage. Blewett was the leader but the event was far from over as defending race winner Steven Reed of Jackson advanced to second after recovering from at least two mishaps earlier in the contest.

Blewett raced on to the win with Reed second, Jonathan Mandato of Toms River an impressive third, Jackson’s Blake Barney fourth and Trevor Alspach of Willingboro fifth.

“Before the race I just wasn’t feeling it with the car,” Blewett said. “(Crew chief) Rob Ormsbee and I went to our notebook and changed the set-up to how it was the first time we won with it. Hard work does have its rewards.”

Beachwood’s Elliott Wohl raced to his first win of the year in the companion 25-lapper for the O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stocks. He fought off Manchester’s Scott Riggleman in the closing laps and Joey Helberg of Union was third. Tom Rajkowski of Fords was fourth and Whitey Miller of Jamesburg was fifth.

Howell’s Brian Osborn grabbed the lead in the final lap to take the win in the 25-lapper for the Surf Side Collision 4 Cylinder Stock 25-lapper. Todd Pilla of Beachwood, who had slipped into the top spot with a handful of laps remaining, was forced to settle for second. Wall’s TJ Graves, Christian LaCicero of Lavallette and Darren Burdge of Jackson completed the top five.

Howell’s Robert French became the winningest driver in the Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars ranks by taking the 25-lapper Saturday. French led most of the race to his 26th career win and fought off several competitors including Louie Keraitis of Toms River and Browns Mills Vinny Troia who finished second and third. Tony Hodgson and James Van Wickle completed the top five.

Racing returns this Saturday night, July 1. The holiday weekend Saturday night card will feature the Modifieds in a 40-lapper and the Snap-on Sportsman cars, the Elite Maintenance Limited Late Models, the Factory Stocks, 4 Cylinder Stocks and the TQ Midgets all in 25-lap main events.

LUTZ WINS THRILLING DUEL AGAINST CARBERRY AT GRANDVIEW
BECHTELSVILLE, PA

Scott Lutz, of Jonestown, PA earned his trip to victory lane on Saturday at Grandview Speedway after being pressured by second place running Tommy Carberry for majority of the twenty-five lap feature event. Carberry, the point leader heading into the night’s event, who was rim-riding his way around the famed 1/3 mile high banked speedway took over the lead as the field was crossing the start-finish line for the white flag, but it was short lived after he came into contact with the outside guard rail going down the back stretch, which handed over the top spot back to Lutz who would take home the victory.

“I really just drove as hard as I could,” Lutz said. “When the top started to go away for me, I thought to myself that my only shot was getting around the lap cars and getting them in between us, but that actually almost cost me the race in the final laps there. I know he had gotten by me but when we got to the back stretch on that final lap, I dove in front of the lap car and that’s how I got back passed him before he had made some contact with the outside wall”.

The field was inverted by nine, putting Eddie Wagner and Scott Lutz on the front row. As the field came around to take the green flag, it was Lutz who shot to the lead heading into turn one. Rick Stief, who started in fourth challenged Wagner for second almost immediately, but Wagner would overcome and continued in the runner up spot, while trying to regain his lead from Lutz.

The leaders caught up to heavy lapped traffic by lap four, with Tommy Carberry, driving his Integrity Auto Body number 28 aggressively on the high side, quickly taking second from Wagner on lap nine.

“I was able to go anywhere on the race track, my car was really good,” said Carberry. “I felt really confident in lapped traffic because of how well my car was handling and I was able to pass cars very quickly which helped me get to second as soon as I did”.

With the first caution on lap twelve displayed for Tyler Reinhardt who spun in turn four, and a red flag coming out for Rick Stief who made contact with the backstretch wall causing him to flip on his side after the restart, it would be the birth of a showdown between Lutz and Carberry, who eventually led the field to the green in double file restart formation.

Lutz would come out on top once again on that restart, with Carberry putting heavy pressure on him as he drove “high wide and handsomely” around the speedway in an attempt to take the lead from Lutz who showed that patience and a calm demeanor would keep him out front.

“I think we both felt really confident running through lapped traffic, and it showed because either of us missed a beat when we were driving through it, that’s for sure,” Carberry commented on the lead cars racing with the slower traffic in tow.

With a final red flag pausing the event on the fourteenth circuit, due to a flipping Stefanie Carberry after making contact with the outside guardrail in turns one and two as she was also advancing positions while “rim riding” around the high groove of the speedway in sixth place, the field was subjected to a single file restart with Lutz taking off with Carberry not far behind.

From that point on, the last ten laps of the feature would be a crowd pleaser, with Lutz and Carberry slicing and dicing through the field, utilizing all parts of the track, making it three wide at times between lapped traffic, with similar racing going on with third and fourth placed Mark Bitner and Tim Tanner Jr., as well as fifth and sixth place running Austin Bishop and Dave Brown.

“You never know with these guys, and I’ve never had to the chance to run with MASS this year, so I’m not really familiar with how their driver run and where they run, so It was quiet an adventure trying to maneuver lapped traffic throughout the race,” mentioned Lutz.

With two laps remaining, with the end in near sight, Carberry made his move heading into turns three and four around Lutz who ran up on a lapped car, allowing Carberry to cruise pass them around the high side.

“I got by Lutz on the top going in between a lapped car, coming to one to go, and the top started going away with six or seven laps to go, and I was really close up on the fence and coming out of two he got back underneath the lapped car,” Carberry explained. “I think my right rear grabbed a hold of the wall, and it must have slapped the front end, and I went to turn it into three on the top and I drove it in there hard, and It just went straight and stuffed it in the fence.”

Crossing the checkered flag to capture his first Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series win in his first attempt would be Scott Lutz, followed by Mark Bitner, Tim Tanner Jr., Austin Bishop and Dave Brown Jr. Carberry would officially finish in fifteenth.

“We usually run with the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series, and we actually won last week up at Hesston Speedway,” said Lutz. “We really enjoyed running with MASS tonight, I’m looking forward to coming back out to Grandview in September, now especially after this win tonight.”

There were twenty-five MASS 305 Sprint Cars in attendance for the Thayer Performance Parts and Engines sponsored night, with three heat race triumphs going to rookie Austin Bishop, Tim Tanner Jr., and Stefanie Carberry and the “last chance” B-Main qualifying race going to Keith Andersen. Thayer Performance gave two Racesaver Spec Hoosier Right Rear tires to the top two hard chargers which were Tom Carberry and Bobby Butler who both advanced six positions in the feature. The Bitner Automotive “Lightning Fast Time of the Night” award went to Austin Bishop who ran a fast time of 13.505 during his heat race.

Tim McCreadie Steals the Spotlight at the Big Show

Watertown, NY Driver Takes the Lead From Larry Wight With 23 Laps to go

MALTA, NY - June 27, 2017 - Larry Wight took the lead from Stewart Friesen on a lap 74 restart, but Tim McCreadie pounded the cushion to go from fourth to the lead on lap 77. McCreadie then led the final 23 laps of Brett Hearn's Big Show 9 to claim the $10,000 winner's share at Albany-Saratoga on Tuesday night. It was McCreadie's first win since he won at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in November 2011.

Friesen took second and Matt Sheppard took third from Larry Wight when he jumped the cushion late in the race and had to settle for fourth. Hearn rounded out the top-five.

"I've been trying to run this race for a while and take some of Brett's money," McCreadie said, tongue-in-cheek following his first Super DIRTcar Series win since 2011. "He always makes more than us and it's nice to take $10,000 from him once and a while."

Wight started on the front row with Max McLaughlin for the 100-lap Feature. Wight drove his No.99L to the point position at the drop of the green flag while Stewart Friesen raced into second from the third starting spot.

McCreadie was quickly on the move from his sixth starting spot and used the same outside lane to take second from Friesen at lap 17. Twenty laps in, Wight found his way into heavy lapped traffic as the race stayed green. At lap 22, Friesen took second back from McCreadie while Wight was able to race freely through the traffic.

Friesen caught the leader on lap 42 and passed Wight to take over the lead on lap 46. Friesen held the point just as the first caution of the race waved at lap 50 when Rich Scagliotta got turned around in turn two.

When the race restarted on lap 59, Friesen held off Wight's charge while Sheppard took third from McCreadie. The top-five maintained their spots, with Hearn in fifth, until the second and final caution at lap 68.

The final restart with 74 laps complete produced all the action at Wight retook the lead from Friesen in the outside lane while McCreadie made his move from fourth to second before taking the lead three laps later.

"I couldn't really hit the bottom at all and when we had cold tires we could roll the middle pretty well," Wight said. "It seemed to be that if we got too much heat in the right-rear, the car went away on us. I don't know if it was me being too hard on it or if we just need to do a little more work on the car itself to get it to run with that hot tires."

Before Wight could worry about getting too much heat in the right-rear tire, McCreadie used the outside lane to drive to the lead.

"I just got lucky," McCreadie said in Victory Lane. "Those guys were hunting the bottom and I had been up there banging the cushion for probably 70 laps and I just figured the only shot I had was to try and go in above it into (turn) one and it happened to stick. It could have easily went the other way, but we're happy tonight."

With eight laps to go, Wight jumped the cushion while running second and fell to fourth as both Friesen and Sheppard raced past him. Friesen caught McCreadie over the final five laps, but couldn't get close enough to regain the top spot for the win.

"Our Halmar car was good on the long run, which is cool," Friesen said. "It's something we haven't really had all year. Second to a guy like that, I mean there aren't too many guys that can run a curb like that and put it where he needed. We'll take a good second. We had a great long run car and it was good. I'm proud of everybody."

"I didn't know how many laps were left, but I saw him poke (the nose) once or twice," McCreadie said of Friesen's late challenge. "It was really kind of dusty once you caught lapped traffic. It wasn't that you couldn't maneuver, I just couldn't really see through the center of the corner to put my right-rear on the cushion so it slowed my entry down and my whole corner down."

Sheppard held on for a third-place finish, his third straight top-five finish and fifth consecutive top-five result to start the season.

"We had a really good car there in the middle of the race," Sheppard said. "We really didn't need that lap 68 caution. I was just rolling by Larry Wight for second and I don't think anybody wanted to be third on that next restart. Timmy was third on the restart before and that's how I got by him. Then I got pinned down there and just lost some ground. I started rolling again there at the end, but it was too little too late."

Wight was happy to earn a top-five finish, but naturally would have preferred to hold on for the win. Mostly, Wight was surprised McCreadie was able to use the outside lane to take the win.

"I never thought anyone could get the top to work with it that far out and as nasty as the cushion was, but he must have been free enough where he could lean on it," Wight said. "It seemed to be that if I went up there it would pull the nose and the car was a handful up there."

Erick Rudolph was the 811 Dig Safely New York redraw bonus eligible driver as the eighth starter. He raced to a sixth-place finish in the Feature event. Pat Ward, who raced to an 11th-place finish, was the Pole Position Raceway Fast Qualifier. Series driver Peter Britten received the Speedy First Aid Hard Luck award after he was the first car out of the race at his home track.

Schatz Scores Win 12 on Return to The Dirt Oval, Where He Won 12 Years Ago

JOLIET, IL — June 27, 2017 — Eight-time champion and current points leader Donny Schatz took the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15 Arctic Cat machine through the checkers to win the FVP Outlaw Clay Classic at The Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway, stealing the lead from Kraig Kinser with only five laps to go. Although Kinser saw his best race of the season to date, Schatz rode him hard, and he ultimately landed in eighth with Kasey Kahne Racing teammates Brad Sweet and Daryn Pittman following Schatz through the checkers.

"Kraig [Kinser] was really good at the start," said Schatz from Victory Lane. "He took off there on the bottom. I didn't quite know if the bottom or the top, the middle, what was going to happen. I just had to give a little time for the race car to come in and the tires to get warm. You kind of had to be all over really. It was a guessing game there for a while, and then we had to restart. Being on the outside I kind of felt like I was hung out to dry a little bit, and Brad [Sweet] got by. Obviously they were really good. I think he started a ways back."

Sweet, who walked away with the KSE Hard Charger Award, started in 13 and worked his way into second. A restart with 13 laps to go saw a three-wide battle for the lead between Kinser, Schatz and Sweet, in which Kinser prevailed, holding the lead for eight more laps, while Sweet and Schatz continued the battle for second with exchanges.

Throughout the race, another tough battle was playing out behind the leaders between Pittman and David Gravel, ending in Pittman's favor after several exchanges.

Pittman, who set Quick Time at 13.637 second, was the only one in Victory Lane who even ran the Craftsman Club Dash, which was led by Jason Sides and Paul McMahan.

Starting on the pole after winning the Dash, Sides led the first four laps of the Feature as Kinser charged up from midfield in position 11 in some of his finest racing this season.

By Lap 5, Kinser was leading, with Sides and Brian Brown behind him as Schatz and Sweet followed suit, diligently taking on car after car, working their way up, and McMahan was losing ground.

Overall, it an exciting return to the half-mile oval, which last saw true oval-track racing twelve years ago. And while the racing was certainly better this time around, one thing remained the same: the champion. Schatz won at the track on July 8, 2005 during the Series' last visit. Twelve years later, he scored win number 12 of the season.

The FVP Outlaw Clay Classic continues tomorrow with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series, while the Sprint Car Series heads for Spring Valley, MN for the Clash at the Creek at Deer Creek Speedway.

BUFFALINO AND STANGLE OUTDUEL COMPETITION TO GAIN VICTORIES AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY’S GARDEN STATE GUNFIGHT

New Egypt, NJ (June 28, 2017) – At New Egypt Speedway’s Garden State Gunfight, Dominick Buffalino fought off his rivals to win the 60-lap Modified feature while Matt Stangle bested the field in the 25-lap Sportsman event.

As the Modified feature got underway, Wade Hendrickson grabbed the lead with Steve Davis and Ryan Godown next in line. Godown would advance into the runner-up spot with six circuits completed. With ten laps recorded, Godown was cutting into Hendrickson’s margin with Davis in third and Anthony Perrego in fourth. Godown pulled even with Hendrickson on the twelfth lap and took over the lead one tour later. As the green flag circuits clicked away, Godown began to approach the tail end of the field on the eighteenth lap with Perrego in second. With the top two runners in the midst of lapping cars, Billy Pauch, Jr. and Dominick Buffalino were making moves to gain third and fourth place respectively by the twenty-first revolution. As Perrego was closing in on Godown, the first caution of the event took place as Rick Laubach collided hard with the outside wall in turn one and collected Brett Kressley in the incident. On the ensuing restart, Godown maintained his edge with Buffalino jumping into second, Pauch, Jr. staying in third and Perrego dropping back into fourth. The high line running Buffalino began to challenge Godown for the top spot when PJ Oliver’s ride slowed on lap twenty-eight. When green flag racing resumed, Godown and Buffalino dueled for two tours with Buffalino switching to the inside lane to take command of the contest just before the caution flag waved for the mid-race fuel stop. At the halfway point, the top five runners were Buffalino, Godown, Perrego, Pauch, Jr. and Davis. After the brief break, action returned with Buffalino still on top but Pauch, Jr. taking over second. Pauch, Jr., who started the event in fourteenth, catapulted to the front on the thirty-third lap following a caution period for Ryan Krachun. Once on top, Pauch, Jr. began to distance himself from his foes with Buffalino and Godown dicing for second with twenty laps remaining in the contest. Five tours later, Buffalino was slowly carving into the comfortable margin that Pauch, Jr. had established. By the forty-sixth lap, the top two began to enter lap traffic. Over the next several revolutions, Buffalino began to slice into the leader’s advantage. With only four tours left, Buffalino had reeled in Pauch, Jr. and was ready to contend for the lead. On lap fifty-seven, Buffalino motored by Pauch, Jr. to assume the front running spot. Buffalino paced the field for the final circuits to claim the $6,000 first place prize. Pauch, Jr. came home in second with Godown claiming third. Duane Howard drove up from his twelfth place start to finish in fourth. Perrego’s strong run netted him fifth. The Modified heat winners were Danny Bouc, Rick Laubach, Ryan Godown and Dominick Buffalino. Frank Cozze and Jeff Strunk were victorious in the consolation races.

In the 25-lap Sportsman event, Matt Stangle gained the lead on the sixteenth lap and remained on top to collect the victory. Steve Davis led the opening fifteen tours before Stangle assumed the advantage following a restart. Second place was taken by Mike Lyons. Involved in a caution on the eighth circuit, JR Fulper came from the back of the pack to finish in third place. Jim Housworth, who started the race in eighteenth, was fourth with Jason Dunn taking fifth. Mike Lyons, Steve Davis, Jason Bittner and Jason Dunn won the Sportsman qualifying races. The consolation contests were taken by Tommy Tanner and Jim Housworth.

On Saturday, July 1 at New Egypt Speedway, the Firecracker 40, presented by 48 Barriers.com, will see the 358 Modifieds competing in a 40-lap feature. The Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars, Hammer Sportsman and an amazing fireworks display will be on the docket as well. The grandstand and pit gates open at 4:00 p.m. Warm-ups get underway at 6:00 p.m. and racing starts at 7:00 p.m. Admission to the grandstand is $25, $23 for seniors 65 & older, $15 for teens 12-15, $15 for military personal and their spouses with ID, and kids 11 & under are FREE. Pit admission is $30 with a New Egypt Speedway license and $40 with no license.

BELL CHIMES IN WITH VICTORY IN USAC MIDGETS' MACON RETURN

Macon, Illinois...July 1, 2017 - The formula for winning at Macon Speedway seems simple enough on paper. Minimize mistakes, take advantage of the opportunities you've been given and throw the occasional slider to get to the front.

However, when seemingly all 23 competitors have the same plan, something has to give on the tight, but captivatingly racey 1/5-mile dirt oval.

Norman, Oklahoma's Christopher Bell seized his opportunity following a lap 20 restart, ultimately making the winning move with six laps remaining past Tyler Courtney to score the win in the USAC Midget National Championship's return to Macon for the first time in a decade.

Yet things didn't start out as rosy for Bell in the opening portion of the 30-lap feature. Well, for the most part.

"At the beginning of the race, I started on the inside of row three and felt like I could get a really good jump using the bottom of (turns) one and two," Bell recalls. "I got to third pretty quickly, and then I just stayed down there too long. I stayed down there and guys started driving by me up top. Next thing I know, I'm back to sixth. I was sixth for a while and couldn't really get anything going."

Bell would remain mired on the outside of the top-five looking in, while, up front, Courtney was dicing it up for the lead position with Spencer Bayston. On lap eight, a wild sequence was kicked into gear when Courtney and Bayston briefly became entangled exiting the second turn, allowing series point leader Brady Bacon to sneak by both briefly to lead the lap.

Courtney gathered his bearings and got Bacon back for the lead between turns one and two. Entering turn three, Bayston made a bid for second. However, both he and Bacon had made separate reservations for one at the same table. Bayston and Bacon pinged nerf bars together. Bacon became the pong, getting the worst end of the deal as he lost momentum and freefell three spots to fifth.

A caution two laps before halfway for the stopped car of Nick Knepper altered the course of Bell's race as opportunity knocked on his helmet visor.

"On the restart, everybody piled in on the bottom and I was able to rip around them and get to third," Bell explains. "From that point, I knew I was pretty good. I just had to bide my time and wait for the guys in front of me to make mistakes."

And "mistakes" would be plentiful. But it's not easy wheeling a quick, twitchy midget around a bullring such as Macon. It's a full contact, elbows up session that's going to get physical in one way or another. It's the nature of the beast on the tight, but speedy confines.

Meanwhile, Courtney was doing what needed to be done to accomplish his mission twofold. At once, he opened up as substantial of a margin as one can attain at Macon - a full-straightaway lead - that put him in control, but, secondly, kept him distanced from the madness ensuing behind him from second on back.

A single lap goes by quickly at this place. The 26-year-old one-lap track record held by P.J. Jones was lowered to 10.3 seconds by Zach Daum in ProSource Qualifying. Later in the night, the pace was consistently around the 12 second mark through the middle to late-stages of the feature. That's still cooking and, without the lap 20 caution for a Jake Neuman spin, Courtney likely would've been gone scot-free and, ultimately, been makin' Illinois cash and hoisting the winner's check in victory lane.

But, then again, opportunity. Someone else's misfortune can become another's positive turning point in any sport. It's not exactly a case of schadenfreude, although its close. With 11 to go, the raced turned on a dime, all falling into Bell's favor.

Unlike the majority of previous restarts, Courtney now had his hands full as Bell hung right with him, running nose-to-tail for multiple laps eying his next move. Bell, the 2013 USAC National Midget champ, went right at Courtney's jaw as the two swapped slide jobs back-and-forth, back-and-forth, trading uppercuts on both ends of the racetrack. Neither were on their heels, though. Both were on the attack in a true, heavyweight bout that showed no indication of either backing down.

"I knew we were about the same speed," Bell remembered. "I just waited to get to traffic. Once you got into traffic, you'd be able to dice it up a little bit. We never got there, though, with the yellows coming out. That one yellow got him out of his rhythm there. Although he did get a really good restart and got a way a little bit. But then, he tripped on the cushion one time and I was able to close the gap. From then on, it was just about sliding him."

With seven to go, Bell attacked and Courtney countered. A lap later, Courtney attacked and Bell countered with enough sliders to make a full meal out of. Courtney made one last-ditch effort with three laps remaining using a turn one slider on Bell. Once again, Bell answered the call and ducked back under Courtney to yank the lead back into his possession, gapping Courtney who now saw the second spot escape his grasp and fall into Bayston's lap.

"Sunshine (Courtney) was really fast out front by himself," Bell credits. "We got the yellow and that got him out of his rhythm. He started making mistakes and I was able to get to him. Then, it became a chess game of who could slide each other the best and break each other's momentum. I felt like he broke my momentum and I broke his momentum."

Yet the final three laps for Bell on his own wouldn't go without a little excitement. With the white flag in hand and Bayston closing, Bell stumbled atop the cushion between turns three and four. As fate would have it, Bayston was a little too close for comfort and had to react to Bell's slight misadventure, forcing Bayston to whoa his ride down just enough to prevent himself a chance to capitalize.

"I got behind Christopher with about three laps to go," Bayston remembers. "I tried to get away from everyone behind us and was waiting, waiting, waiting. Christopher kind of stumbled in (turns) three and four coming to the white flag. In turn, it caused all of us behind him to screw up and he was able to get away. That kind of scrapped the whole plan I had set for those final two laps."

Bell recovered, running a sweet and sound 30th lap for a relatively comfortable margin of seven-tenths of a second to take the win over Bayston, Courtney, Justin Grant and KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Shane Golobic, who came all the way from the 21st starting position.

To Bell, his 18th career USAC National Midget victory wasn't merely about being the best for all 30 laps or even just being the best at the end. To him, the race for the win purely came down to limiting mistakes in traffic and on the tricky cushion in his Keith Kunz-Curb-Agajanian Motorsports/DeWalt - TRD/Bullet by Spike/Speedway Toyota.

"I've been coming to Macon for a long time now and I've run a lot of races here," Bell begins. "Typically, the curb will ledge up really big like that. It's just figuring out where your marks are, when to be in the cushion and when to come off the cushion. I felt like I got going pretty good there just past halfway. I just had to figure out how to use the cushion without getting tripped up in it. There at the end, once Sunshine and I started racing, it came down to who could screw up the least and make the cleanest laps. It was super technical and super hard. That's how it should be!"

After a seven-race drought to begin the season, the Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian team has now won its third in a row with three different drivers. The most recent victor during this streak prior to Saturday night was Kokomo "Indiana Midget Week" winner Spencer Bayston of Lebanon, Indiana, who grabbed second in his Curb Record - TRD/Bullet by Spike/Speedway Toyota.

"It was very physical out there," Bayston said. "It seems to be that way every single time we come here. That's just how the place is. Some people like it and some people don't. Early on, I felt pretty good. Sunshine had a good lead and I didn't know if I was going to be able to get to him. With all those cautions, I was able to adjust and get a little bit better. Toward the end, Christopher and I worked our way around them and we were able to get out front."

When Bayston saw Bell and Courtney throwing haymakers at each other, he admits that he was on his toes and ready to pounce if a tangle between the two were to ensue.
"They were really going at it, so I was kind of waiting for something to develop to allow me to get in there," Bayston acknowledged. "When they start battling like that, they kind of back up to you. I was able to get in and we were both able to work by Sunshine in the final laps."

Tyler Courtney led a race-high 23 laps and continued his run of success as well with a fifth consecutive top-five finish in his Clauson-Marshall Racing/Driven 2 Save Lives - Indiana Donor Network/Spike/Stanton SR-11.

ELMA, Wash. (July 1, 2017) Wheeling the Henderson Motorsports No. 7n to the green from the pole position, Medford, Oregon's Roger Crockett went flag-to-flag to pick up his second career victory at Grays Harbor Raceway in National competition with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsport Network in the 3rd annual Fred Brownfield Classic presented by Little Creek Casino and Resort.

"It's a huge deal to get the win here at Elma. We've been fighting some gremlins these past couple weeks. We were getting some good finishes and the car's been good, but we were just missing that little extra and finally dialed the thing in tonight," commented Roger who reveled the team had been tracking down a vibration through Dirt Cup and the opening night of the Brownfield that ended up being the U-Joint.

"This National Tour is no joke. There's a lot of good guys out here, so it feels really good to come out on top."

A complete restart after Harli White and Sam Hafertepe, Jr. came to a stop off the fourth turn, the next attempt was also scrubbed when Devin Madonia came to a rest entering the third turn. Taking the green the third time with Matt Covington rolling to his outside, Roger was able to fend off the charge of the A-Rock Material No. 95.

Building a lead over five seconds at one point, Crockett was smooth through traffic as Wayne Johnson gave chase in the Outlaw Wings No. 2c. Working on cutting Roger's advantage down, the lead was almost up for grabs on Lap 24 as Crockett got crossed up.

Asked about what happened, Roger replied, "That's a deal where you're pushing and pushing. I started getting the wing back and when I did, the car got tight so I started driving even harder, and just got into some dirty air and the car jumped out from underneath me. Luckily I was able to gather it up, but it was a scary moment for a second there."

Looking like the race was going to go the distance, the caution finally displayed on Lap 28 for Jay Cole who came to a rest off the fourth turn.
With lapped cars to his advantage, Roger was uncontested with his advantage at the line 1.901 seconds over Wayne Johnson.

A solid turnaround from Friday night, Wayne gave praise to his crew for getting the car figured out and rolling in the right direction. Johnny Herrera parked his No. 45x third for the second night in a row, after a multi lap battle with the No. 87 of Aaron Reutzel. Falling back to fifth in traffic just two laps before the caution, the restart saw something turn foul for Aaron, as 22nd starting Blake Hahn raced by for the fifth spot. Advancing 17 positions, Hahn was Saturday's CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night.

Matt Covington ended up sixth with Jason Solwold also charging hard from 20th to seventh. Craig Dollansky was eighth with Seth Bergman coming from 18th to ninth. Coming from 21st, Skylar Gee came up to round out the evening's top-ten.

A field of 36 was on hand for the finale of the 3rd annual Fred Brownfield Classic presented by Little Creek Casino and Resort. Four Heat Races went to Henry Van Dam, Seth Bergman, Wayne Johnson, Harli White, and Colton Heath. B-Mains were topped by Jay Cole and Seth Bergman. No Provisional starts were used.

The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series begins its turn back to the mid-west with the series next stop coming on at Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont. on Friday, July 7 and Saturday, July 8 for the second annual Grizzly Nationals. Hamlin, PA - "The Captain" Cody Kline Steers His Ship To Victory In VetStock Firecracker 100 At Hamlin Speedway

The Fourth of July holiday span found the Hamlin Speedway swinging back into racing action after being dark and silent for a week of rest and relaxation. The hard working promotional team of Denise and Randy Smith was prepped and ready for the onslaught of race cars and the standing room only crowd that arrived at the speedway. The management and staff at the Hamlin Speedway put forth a superlative effort and produced another great evening of racing in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania despite all attempts from Mother Nature to halt the schedule. The seven feature card was sponsored by Honesdale National Bank, Hollywood Towing from Middletown, New York, JPA Masonry from Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania and the S&S Speedways located in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The results were spectacular and the fans and drivers put forth a great effort to raise money for the VetStock Veterans Group in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

The standing room only crowd witnessed a seven feature event card with the VetStock Firecracker 100 lap feature for the All Star Slingshots being the showcased event of the evening. Bangor, Pennsylvania resident "The Captain" Cody Kline was at the top of his game as he dominated the event by leading nearly every lap to capture the more than $1,200.00 in prize money plus contingencies plus winning his first ever feature event at the Hamlin Speedway. "Bad" Chad Sandt was flawless in performance as he worked the speedway cushion to perfection in recording his second win of the 2017 season in the Wingless 600 Sprint finale and becoming the first driver to capture two wins in the division. Abby Yates made a profound statement as she wired the field to capture her first ever win in the Junior Slingshot feature attraction. "The Oxford Express" Dale Kober was in top form as he wired the field on his way to his fifth win in the Super Slinger feature. Zach Weisenfluh captured his first ever win in the JPA Masonry Rookie 600 Sprints and wired the field in doing so. Joel Price was on rails as he captured the Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified feature. "Deuce" Glenn Macomber scored his third win of the season in the Wingless 270 Sprint main event. When the racing action was completed, the highs and lows of victory and defeat came to light but for all of the competitors, each and everyone of them should be applauded for their fine efforts on an evening where giving back meant as much as the thrill of victory. The VetStock event headed up by Honesdale National Bank, Hollywood Towing & Auto, JPA Masonry and S&S and Hamlin Speedway , put forth a solid effort that saw a good sum of dollars raised for the locally based charitable organization

"Chargin" Charlie Lawrence and Cody Kline brought the 27-car starting field down for the start of the VetStock Firecracker 100 event. Kline had the hot ticket and was quick and showed it early on by racing out front with Lawrence staying glued to his tailpipe. The first 34-laps went without incident but a couple skirmishes slowed the pace a bit but once the racers found their grooves, the results were more than worth the price of an admission ticket as the racing throughout the field was incredible.

After the halfway point young New Jersey racer Cole Stangle put in a bid to unseat Kline from the top spot. Stangle did so on laps 53 and 54 but Kline came roaring back and assumed command of the lead with Stangle and now Brett Bieber applying the pressure. The three leaders broke away from the field and ran under a blanket as they matched moves like they were on a chess board. The end for Bieber came on lap-89 as he was making his bid to win the event and limped into the infield.

The jockeying for position behind the leaders was truly incredible as some racers and contenders would suffer from one or the other to place them on the sidelines. Kline would drive to victory with Stangle in for runner-up honors. Last year's winner Justin Mills was third with Austin Silfee putting together a great ride to come from 15th place to finish fourth and Dale Kober was fifth after starting 14th. Dylan Hoch headed up the second five with Taylor Mills, Samantha Muller (her best finish of the season), Mike McLaughlin from 27th, and Tyler Peet from 26th. From 10th to 15th finishers were Tess Horvath, Josh Marcus, Jordan Lawrence, Charlie Lawrence and Jared LaBagh. Fifteen drivers finished all 100 laps.

In Wingless 270 Sprint action, Glenn Macomber and Kyle Ferrucci waged a wicked battle for the point with Macomber able to keep in front of the fearless one. The race settled in with Macomber leading all of the way to claim his third win of the season. Ferrucci was second with Alex Reinsmith third and Stephen Weirich fourth. .

Chad Sandt powered into the lead at the start of the 600 Sprint main with a drive it where they ain't move to easily take command of the event. Meanwhile, Colin White and Mick D'Agostino were locked into a battle behind Sandt and it allowed Sandt to slip away into a big lead. Sandt would race away to his second win of the season with White, D'Agostino, Cody Smith and Joel Smith completing the top five. Damon Paul, Danny Buccafusca, Joseph Smith, Jacob Balliet, and Geordan Marrero completed the top ten.

Abby Yates won the drag race over JJ Rice at the start of the Junior Slingshot finale to hustle into the lead. Yates, who has improved with each outing in her rookie year, kept hitting her marks with Rice and Shelby McLaughlin applying lots of pressure. A bobble by Rice when he clipped a tire allowed Yates some breathing room but Rice and McLaughlin inched closer as the event continued. Yates ran a perfect race to capture her first ever Hamlin win with Rice, McLaughlin, Adam Buchel and John Kendall completing the top five. Tyler Banks headed up the second five with Tyler Ulsh, Kasey Hufcut, Rachel Dickinson and newcomer Jack VanVarick next in line.

The Super Slingers racing action found Dale Kober hustling out to a comfortable lead early in the event with early pressure coming from Mike
Taylor. After the midway point of the event, Taylor began to cut Kober's lead and would do so until the end of the race with Kober winning, Taylor in second and Jimmy Conroy in third.

Zack Weisenfluh has had a rookie season in which he has landed upside down and suffered engine maladies while leading but this night all of the pieces finally came together and he took the lead on the first lap of the JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint main event and led all of the way but had to hold off a determined effort by Paul Richards Jr to secure his first ever win at the speedway in his new division. Richards was second with doing great work in third place, Noah Zielinski fourth and Joey Amantea rounding out the top five. Carmen Leggio Sr was sixth with Ryan Lacoe, newcomer Dylan Licklider, Brett Altemose, Tyler Lindsey and Macy Litchauer following.

Joel Price hasn't been in competition much in 2017 but he returned to Hamlin on Saturday night and showed he still has the touch as he held off one of the best in the business in Joel Smith to capture the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modified feature. Price showed he had not skipped a beat as he raced out to an early lead. Joel Smith chased him around the speedway and as the laps wore down the leader got into some slower traffic and Smith made contact with one and the turn of events allowed Price to capture the win. Smith was second with Cole Stangle, Michael Samony and newcomer Pat VanVarick completing the top five. The returning Bill Dianella, John Comandini, Jeff Hineline, Janell Geary and Anthony Recchio completed the top ten.

Pearl Jams:

Despite the crazy thunderstorm that rolled through the area at 4:30, Randy Smith had the speedway in impeccable condition as the multi-channeled facility was very racy throughout the evening and the Smith Crew can be proud of their efforts in keeping the speedway in top form and producing a great show for the fans and the drivers..

The rain caused a change in the format for the evening as it reverted to time trials only to set the starting fields. Time trials for the 33 All Star Slingshots on hand found Brett Bieber stopping the clocks at 14.753 seconds to lead all racers in the All Star Slingshots as he nipped Dylan Hoch who timed at 14.770 seconds and Justin Mills who timed at 14.810 seconds. Kyle Ferrucci was top timer for the 270 Sprints with a 12.808 second time over Glenn Macomber's 12.828 time. Pat VanVarick had the top time in the Stage One Modifieds with a 13.520 clocking. Dale kober recorded the top time for the Super Slingers at 15.253 seconds. Colin White was top time for the 600 Sprints at 12.437 seconds juast a tick quicker than Chad Sandt's 12.454 and Mick D'Agostino's 12.458 time.
John Kendall posted the top time for the Junior Slingshots at 12.350 seconds just under the time posted by JJ Rice at 15.390. Paul Richards Jr had the fast time for the Rookie 600 Sprints with a 12.708 over Joey Amantea's 12.759.

A B-Main was needed for the All Star Slingshot to complete the starting field and was captured by former track champion and the returning "The 38 Special" Jared LaBagh. CJ Fritz, Tanner Jones, Nick Vinciguerra, Russell Benke, Dillon Emmons, Ashley Kober, Mike McLaughlin and Tyler Peet also made the transfer.

Newcomers and returning drivers to the speedway included Dylan Hoch, Charlie Lawrence, Jordan Lawrence, Brett Bieber, Chloe Andreas and "Kid Wicked" Tyler Pirone in the All Star Slingshots. Dylan Licklider was a new addition in the 600 Sprints. Joel Price, Jeff Hineline, Pat VanVarick and Aaron Goodin were new additions to the Stage One Modifieds. Cody Motto was aboard the former Steve Darling Stage One Modified his team just purchased. Jack VanVarick was a new addition to the Junior Slingshots.

Once again the generous support from the racers and fans created the wonderful family atmosphere that exists at the Hamlin Speedway and this event proved to be another solid promotional effort for the VetStock Organization. A tip of the fedora goes out to Honesdale National Bank, Hollywood Towing & Auto, JPA Masonry, Hamlin Speedway and S&S Speedways to market this great event and the racers and fan support was overwhelming and a huge thank you to everyone for their gracious support of the event.

Joey Saldana earns first Wayne County All Star victory since 1999

ORRVILLE, OH (July 1, 2017) - Despite 18 years separating Joey Saldana from his last visit to Wayne County Speedway, the result remained the same; a victory against the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.

Saldana, aboard the Indy Race Parts/No. 71, led 15 of the 30 circuits on Saturday night to claim the $5,000 winner’s share at Orrville’s Historic Oval, utilizing a lap 16 restart to slingshot underneath early race leader, Chad Kemenah. The victory, his first Arctic Cat All Star victory since 2014 at Volusia Speedway Park, increased Saldana’s overall Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions win count to 72, five of which at Wayne County Speedway which ties “The Brownsburg Bullet” with Sheldon Haudenschild for the most all-time.

Lockbourne, Ohio’s Cole Duncan charged from seventh to finish second at Wayne County Speedway, followed by Chad Kemenah, Ryan Smith and pole-sitter Dean Jacobs.

“This just goes to show how important it is to be around a great team,” Joey Saldana explained in victory lane. “Sprint car racing is really tough, and it is really easy to get down on yourself. Tonight just goes to show that it’s not just you, it’s a whole team, and tonight I had a whole team. I raced with the All Stars for a long time. It was the feeding ground for the World of Outlaws. Racing with this Series did a lot for me. Luckily for me I was lucky enough to take that next step and move forward.”

Before Saldana made his winning move on lap 16, it was all Dean Jacobs and Chad Kemenah at the front of the running order. Despite a number of cautions halting action, one of which during the opening green resulting in a four car pile-up, Jacobs and Kemenah battled relentlessly, racing side-by-side nearly all the way around Wayne County Speedway.

Jacobs led the first six circuits officially, ultimately losing the lead to Kemenah on lap seven, only to regain control again to officially lead laps eight through 11. Kemenah drove back under Jacobs at the entrance of turn three to solidify himself back on top of the field on lap 12, only to be halted by red flag conditions on lap 13, and another caution on lap 16. By that point, Saldana had already worked his way into second, now setting his sights on the five-time and defending Arctic Cat All Star champion.

When green flag action returned, Saldana chased Chad Kemenah into turns one and two, ultimately setting up a drag race through turn three where Saldana would drove under the Hunter Racing/Seneca Energy/DKW Transport/No. 10H. From that point forward, “The Brownsburg Bullet” was the show, and despite one more caution pausing his momentum, Saldana would pull ahead to win by 3.3 seconds.

“It feels really good to be back here, and to be tied with Sheldon Haudenschild is pretty cool,” Saldana said. “He’s the next best thing in sprint car racing. He has a lot of talent.”

The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will continue competition on Saturday evening, July 8, with a visit to Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio; the second and final visit by the Arctic Cat All Stars in 2017, as well as the 100th overall appearance since the Series first made the trek to Hartford in 1970.

The 9th Annual Lou Blaney Memorial, honoring the late National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee, will headline competition at the state-of-the-art facility on Saturday evening. The Arctic Cat All Stars will battle for a $5,000 top prize.

Schatz Outlasts Kaeding and Stewart for Victory at Dakota State Fair

Schatz picks up 13th victory of the Outlaws season

HURON, S.D - July 1, 2017 - Starting from the front row, Shane Stewart grabbed the lead exiting Turn 2 on the opening lap and set sail setting a blistering pace. With the main event being cut short by one lap due to track conditions, Stewart had to withstand one final restart. On that restart with one lap to go, Stewart restarted directly in front of Schatz. The top two of Stewart and Schatz headed down the backstretch coming to the checkers. Schatz was able to get a run on the high side coming out of Turn 2 allowing him to drive by Stewart to pick up his 13th victory of the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series season.

In a night that saw numerous flat tires throughout the 22-car field, the 30-lap race at Dakota State Fair Speedway was shortened to 29 laps due to track conditions.

Shane Stewart, the driver of the No. 2 Larson Marks Racing entry has been on a hot streak over the last couple of week. Having won two-in-a-row at West Liberty and Beaver Dam, just a week ago, Stewart was looking to pick up his fifth win of the season at Dakota State Fair Speedway on Saturday night.

After jumping out to an early lead on the start, Stewart set a blistering pace putting a gap between him and the No. 9 of Daryn Pittman who also started on the front row with Stewart. The first of six stoppages of the night was for the No. 93 who slowed at the top of Turn 1 with a flat tire. Sheldon Haudenschild would recover for a fifth-place finish.

Stewart would jump back out to a big lead on the restart. Schatz who was running third behind Pittman at the time was able to get by the No. 9 Great Clips machine on lap 22 for second. It was on lap 25 that Pittman sustained a flat tire, bringing out a yellow flag.

As the field was coming to get two laps to go at the stripe, Schatz dove aggressively under Stewart for the lead in Turn 3 and made it stick. However, the No. 5 of David Gravel went for a flip in Turn 1 at the same time, giving Stewart the lead back for the restart, Gravel was able to be pushed to the work area but could not return.

"We got by [Stewart] before the red came out," Said Donny Schatz. "I knew it got to be where [Stewart] was going to stay down on the bottom groove and we just had a little bit left to get around him on the outside coming out of Turn 2."

Due to track conditions, officials made the decision to the shorten the race by one lap. Stewart regained the lead after the previous lap was not scored complete. Stewart lead Schatz, Kaeding and the rest of the field to the restart where both the green and white flags were displayed.

"Man, that was tough," said Shane Stewart. "I actually thought my tire was going flat coming to the green [on the last restart]. When [track] takes rubber like this the restarts are so hard on your tires."

Stewart led into Turn 1 but Schatz used the top grove exiting Turn 2 to get by Stewart for the lead.

"You don't ever want to lead that many laps and finish third," said Shane Stewart. "It's a testament to how good my car is right now. My guys did a great job, just wasn't meant to be."

"I'm here to win races, that's what we're here to do," said Schatz regarding his winning pass. "When you're in second and got an opportunity to win a race, that's what you're going to do - you're going to go for it. You're not going to do anything silly and we didn't. We got the win and that's what matters," added Schatz.

Schatz would complete the rest of the 3/8th-mile en-route to his 13th victory of the 2017 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car season.

"We definitely got our monies worth on the tires tonight," said Donny Schatz who's right-rear tire was bald.

"I didn't think it was going to get that abrasive and rubbered up that early," said Schatz. "Shane [Stewart] got out there and set a pretty good pace and I was trying to make the bottom work, it felt ok but those guys got away. I moved up and you could feel it - that's the point you have to decide how hard you want to go. I'm glad I did that because there was no way I was going to be around at the end to have an opportunity to win that race."

Stewart would eventually lose another position to Tim Kaeding in the No. 3 who took advantage of others misfortunes and drove up through the field from the 12th-starting spot.

"Man, this feels like a win for me," said Tim Kaeding. "We've struggled pretty much all year. To run second with these guys on a rubbered down track like that and not pop a tire, I'm definitely going to enjoy a beer tonight."

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to action on Thursday, July 6 for a make-up Feature at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, MN before heading off to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI on Saturday and Sunday, July 7 and 8. ABBOTTSTOWN, PA – July 1, 2017 – Danny Dietrich continued to impress in Saturday night’s Pennsylvania Speedweek show at Lincoln Speedway, claiming the $7,000 to prize in the 18th Annual Kevin Gobrecht Memorial for 410 sprint cars.

Time trials, qualifying, and an inversion of “6” for the feature placed Dietrich alongside Freddie Rahmer on the outside of of row two for the start.

Outside front row starter Trey Starks led the first ten laps before polesitter Rico Abreu took over on lap 11. Dietrich charged by both Starks and Abreu for the lead on lap 12. Though he led the rest of the way in the non-stop 30 lap feature, he had to deal with a closing Lance Dewease over the final eight laps. Dewease, who started sixth, moved into second with eight laps to go, and actually pulled inside Dietrich in heavy lapped traffic on turns three and four of lap 24. But Dietrich shut the door exiting the turn and pulled away to a .75-second victory at the end, his second win in a row, sixth Lincoln win of the year, and 37th of his career in the Pigeon Hills.

“That was pretty good show,” said Dietrich in victory lane after completing the 30-lap event in eight minutes, 10.303 seconds, “I wasn’t really good there at the end. I thought Lance was definitely going to catch me. I think I saw him one time. I started to play defense. I don’t like playing defense, but I’m glad to be standing here.”

“Hats off to this crew back here…Tony, Jake, Jordan, and Tyler…they bust their butts all week long,” continued Dietrich, “I wasn’t in the shop much with other things going on, and it feels good to be standing here again. I’m not sure I had a fast car at the end. We have to get working on the end of the race a little bit.”

Dewease settled for second, with Abreu, James McFadden, and Speedweek point leader Freddie Rahmer rounding out the top five. Sixth through tenth were 11th-starting Alan Krimes, 13th-starting Brandon Rahmer, Lucas Wolfe, Matt Campbell, and Starks.

Heats for the sprints were won by Dewease, Starks, Abreu, and Greg Hodnett, with Chad Trout winning the B-Main. Fast time in time trials was set by Dewease over the 42-car field with a one-lap time of 13.468-seconds (100.238 MPH).

Mason Chaney held off Lucas Montgomery by a half car-length to score his second career Lincoln win in the 20-lap Central PA Legends feature. Chaney started third and grabbed the lead from polesitter and race-long leader Chris Transeau on lap three. He led the rest of the way despite heavy late-race pressure from Montgomery, crossing .19 seconds ahead of Montgomery at the finish.
Third through fifth were Hayden Pascoe, Transeau, and Travis Perry.

Heats for the 31 Central PA Legends were won by Transeau, Perry, and Chaney, with Scott Haudeshell winning the consolation.

Lincoln Speedway is back in action this Monday night, July 3rd, with night 4 of the scheduled Speedweek series. Night 4 of the series will have the 410 sprinters going after the $5,000 winner’s check. The 358 Sprinters will round out the evening’s action. Gates will open at 5:30 PM, with time trials scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM.

PJ OLIVER ROCKETS TO HIS FIRST CAREER 358 MODIFIED FEATURE VICTORY AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY

New Egypt, NJ (July 2, 2017) – At New Egypt Speedway’s Firecracker 40 sponsored by 48 Barriers, PJ Oliver rocketed to his first career 358 Modified feature victory. Pat Wall took the checkered flag in the Hammer Sportsman main event. Ryan Godown scored the win in the Northeast Wingless Sprint Car feature. Due to rain that delayed the start of the program, the racing schedule was adjusted and only feature events took place.

As the Firecracker 40 got underway for the 358 Modifieds, Rocco Infante grabbed the lead with Doug Ostwald and PJ Oliver next in line. On lap five, Oliver moved past Ostwald to take over second. The top two of Infante and Oliver remained intact and in close quarters as they began to encounter traffic with fifteen circuits recorded. At the halfway point, Infante and Oliver were still in tight formation with Ostwald chasing them from third. On lap twenty-one, Infante bobbled in the fourth corner and Oliver jumped to the lead. Three tours later, Oliver hopped the cushion in turn one and Infante regained the lead. Quickly, Oliver regrouped and began to track down Infante. With ten laps left in the extra distance contest, Oliver used an inside move to return to the top running spot with Infante, Ostwald and Billy Pauch, Jr. in tow. On lap thirty four, Infante’s strong run ended as he slowed and pulled off the speedway. With Infante retired from the race, Ostwald was now in second but Pauch, Jr. was on his tail. On the thirty-seventh tour, the first yellow flag of the race appeared as Bryan Kuhl slowed in turn four and stopped on the frontstretch. When green flag racing resumed, Oliver kept his lead with Pauch, Jr. motoring past Ostwald for second. A slowing DJ Ruppert created the second and final caution period of the contest on lap thirty-eight. Following the restart, Oliver held off Pauch, Jr. in the last two revolutions to secure the win. Pauch, Jr. claimed the runner-up spot. A strong and late run gave Tad Cox a third place finish. Dominick Buffalino was fourth and John McClelland came home in fifth. Ostwald, Chad Barney, David Van Horn, Danny Bouc and Kevin Vaclavicek rounded out the top ten.

After taking the lead from Steve Desmelyk on the tenth circuit, Pat Wall repelled the challenge of Mike Lyons to take the checkered flag in the 25-lap Sportsman race. The win was Wall’s fourth career victory in the Sportsman division. With Lyons finishing second, TJ Lilly completed the contest in third. Billy Osmun was fourth and Matt Stangle claimed fifth.

In the non-stop 20-lap Northeast Wingless Sprint Car feature, Ryan Godown tallied his fifth win of the year in six events. Godown took the lead from Duane Nixon on lap five and sailed away from his rivals. Larry McVay recorded a career best second place finish in only his fourth race in the division. Lee Nardell was third with Lou Cicconi in fourth and Rich Mellor coming home in fifth.

The Street Stocks take center stage on Saturday, July 8 at New Egypt Speedway with the running of the 25-lap Mr. Street Stock Classic event. The 358 Modifieds and the Crate Modifieds round out the three division card. The grandstand and pit gates open at 4:00 p.m. Warm-ups get cranked up at 6:00 p.m. with the first green flag waving at 7:00 p.m. Admission to the grandstand is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors 65 and older, $10 for teens 12-15, $10 for military personal and their spouses with ID, and kids 11 & under are FREE. Pit admission is $30 with a New Egypt Speedway license and $40 with no license.

New York Number: Friesen Flies to Victory at Utica-Rome

Sprakers, NY Driver Scores First Win of 2017 in New Yorker 100

VERNON, NY - July 2, 2017 - Stewart Friesen took the lead from Pat Ward on lap 55 with a pass in the slick outside lane after a lap 45 restart and withstood a fury of action, including a pair of red flags in the final 25 laps to win the New Yorker 100 at Utica-Rome Speedway on Sunday night. It was the first Super DIRTcar Series victory of the season for the Sprakers, NY native and the 24th of his career to give him sole possession of 11th on the Series all-time wins list.

"What a racecar, wow," Friesen said in Victory Lane. "This Halmar team just worked so hard to be better on these slick tracks."

The track was especially slick for the New Yorker 100, despite the excessive amount of rain over the last month in the area. After setting the Pole Position Raceway Fast Time and then winning his heat, Matt Sheppard pulled the pole for the 100-lap main event.

Sheppard came to the green flag with Max McLaughlin on the outside of the front row. The Waterloo, NY native Sheppard took the early lead while Ward, who is a weekly regular at Utica-Rome along with Sheppard, quickly jumped into third behind third-starting Billy Decker.

Decker kept pace with the Series point leader after they caught lapped traffic on lap 15 and on lap 37 drove to the outside of Sheppard for the lead in turn three. Off of turn four, Decker crossed lanes and raced inside of Sheppard in turn one and completed the pass exiting turn two to lead lap 38.

Decker, who has two wins on the tour this season, had the lead for just one lap though when the caution waved before lap 39 was complete after Sheppard slowed with a flat right-front tire, forcing him to surrender the second spot.

On the ensuing restart at lap 45, Ward rode the outside lane to the point and shuffled Decker back to second. Friesen's car hit its stride midway through the race and he sped past Decker for second on lap 52. Just two laps later, Friesen was knocking on Ward's door in search of the lead. Friesen found grip up top and soared in the high groove to clear the No.42 for the number one spot on lap 55.

A lap after Friesen led, the caution waved again for a slowed Alan Johnson who had trouble with his No.14J. The restart with 61 laps in the books was the best for Friesen as he used the next nine laps to race ahead to a more than two-second advantage over Ward. The deficit was eliminated for Ward when Claude Hutchings Jr. rolled his No.84j in turn three after contact with Beth Bellinger's No.1s to cause a red flag. The misfortune for Hutchings earned him the Speedy First Aid Hard Luck award.

Friesen was strong again on the restart and cruised away from Ward despite the latter's challenge on the bottom of the track. With 20 laps to go, the top-five were single-file while a three-car battle waged behind them for sixth between Brett Hearn, Sheppard and Wight. Hearn maintained sixth while Sheppard and Wight raced side-by-side for seventh.

Following a lap 86 restart for a spun Nick Webb, Friesen again raced away from the field until the second red flag of the race came on lap 88. The event was stopped when Sheppard and Wight collided on the backstretch, sending Wight's No.99L airborne for two end-over-end tumbles in turn three. The incident ended the night for both drivers.

Ward's final chance to reel in Friesen came on the restart with 12 laps to go, but it was not to be as the Sprakers driver drove away to his 54th career victory at Utica-Rome.

"I found something on the outside and we were able to race past Pat (Ward) and Fuller and Decker," Friesen said. "I can't believe it. This place has been tough. I think we have something now. It was pretty sporty out there."

The win was especially important for Friesen, who previously raced weekly at Utica-Rome. It was the best possible home coming for his No.44 team to shake their winless start to the season.

"This is great, especially here," Friesen said. "This is probably the toughest track on the circuit. It's pretty cool. We need to get a plus one to keep Matt at bay. He's coming on the win list, so this will keep him back for another week."

Ward was satisfied with his second-place finish behind Friesen, his best result to date in 2017 with the Series.

"My crew guys made some adjustments after the heat and it took right off," Ward said. "I thought we were pretty good and then Stewart drove around me, like he does a lot of times. He was good. I'm happy with second. We had a good car."

Tim Fuller completed the podium with a third-place finish, his best finish of the campaign and his first top-five result.

"We had a good run," Fuller said. "Thanks to Ray Graham. I had a good car. To finish in the top-three at Utica is pretty amazing."

Earlier in the night, Wight, Sheppard, Fuller and Friesen won qualifying heat races. Rob Bellinger and Keith Flach claimed wins in the Last Chance Qualifiers. The KSE Hard Charger was Gary Tomkins, who raced from 14th to the seventh finishing position. Jimmy Phelps and Wight were the Dig Safely NY redraw bonus eligible drivers after starting eight and eleventh respectively. Phelps finished 14th while Wight was scored in the 25th position after his wreck.

BELL GOES 2 FOR 2 ON ILLINOIS MIDGET SWING WITH LINCOLN MIDGET SCORE

Lincoln, Illinois....July 2, 2017 - It had been three years since a driver had won consecutive USAC Midget National Championship features at two different Illinois tracks.

That driver was Christopher Bell, who captured a pair of victories at Tri-City Speedway (Granite City) and Belle-Clair Speedway (Belleville) during the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

It was a rare case of déjà vu Sunday night in the series' return to the Logan County Fairgrounds' Lincoln Speedway for the first time since 1959. Norman, Oklahoma's Bell staked his claim of Illinois by writing the deed that turned the Land of Lincoln into the Land of Bell for the time being, racing to the front on the same, exact lap (25) as he did the night before in his victory at Macon Speedway to lead the same two drivers, Spencer Bayston and Tyler Courtney, across the line for the second time in as many nights.

In front of an electric, standing room only crowd, Bell began the race from the third position, but it wasn't an immediate charge to the front, as he stayed put for much of the first half of the 30-lapper, wavering back-and-forth between third and fourth as Tyler Thomas, then Tyler Courtney, took turns heading the field early in the going.

On lap six, the scariest incident of the season occurred when Brayton Lynch and Chad Boat made contact entering turn one. Lynch's car launched into the fence, snapping one of the fence posts in half and taking down a large section of catch-fencing and the safety light with him. Meanwhile, Boat's car launched over the wall and fencing at Mach-10 speed, flipping nose-to-tail roughly 15 times before, eventually, landing near a parking lot a football field-distance away from where the incident began. Fortunately, both drivers were able to walk away from the scene.

On the ensuing restart, the top-three of Courtney, Bayston and Thomas tussled for position before Courtney found a foothold and pulled out to a ten-car-length margin advantage.

Back in third and fourth, Bell was starting to find his rhythm as he muscled the curb on the bottom of turn two to maneuver into the top-three. As he began to close on Bayston for second on the 10th lap, the fourth stoppage in the first third of the event came out when Kyle Schuett came to a rest in turn three.

The back-and-forth grapple between speeding to the front under green flag conditions and idling under yellow can bring about agitation. The starts and stops had become persistent early on as, every time Bell began to make a charge, his momentum would be required to cease for the moment and he would have to recover his equilibrium when action resumed.

"At the beginning of the race, we weren't able to find a rhythm due to the yellows," Bell recalls. "There was no flow. We get a lap here, a lap there, then a yellow would fly. My car was really good, though. I knew early I was good. I just needed laps to get going. It's tough when there's a bunch of yellows. The longer the green flag runs are, the better I typically am."

However, that would allow a number of anxious drivers to regroup and find their groove. Yet, when the green flag flew on the lap 10 restart, every driver's groove was initially on the bottom. Bayston was able to work his way under Courtney on the back straight to grab the lead as the two darted toward turn three.

"I was able to work the bottom of turns one and two pretty well and was all the way down on the berm," Bayston explains. "I got a good drive off, and got to the lead and run. But my line started to go away midrace, so I had to figure something else out."

Near mid-race, Bell had caught up to Courtney in a tug-of-war for second. The two swapped the position multiple times, exchanging sliders and altering back-and-forth between the high-and-low lines on laps 14 and 15. As Courtney and Bell crossed the line and crossed sticks were presented for the halfway mark, the two banged wheels, impeding Bell's progress as he fell to fourth and Shane Golobic took advantage on the bottom to rope in the third spot.

Bell saw the proverbial writing on the wall at that point and knew if he was going to win the thing, the top was going to be the place to do it.

"I knew the top was my only option if I wanted to win the race," Bell admits. "I really couldn't get anything going anywhere else. I was able to get the top going and I think I was the first guy up there. The biggest thing was just getting the top cleaned off, keeping it clean and maintaining my momentum."

On lap 19, Bell disposed of Golobic for third and, two laps later, he was back in the thick of the hunt for second as he worked the high line with Courtney occupying the middle groove. Bell put his right rear rubber right up against the wall in turn two with nine to go, possibly brushing it as he closed the ever-shrinking gap. In turn four, however, Courtney slid up in front of Bell momentarily. Bell crossed over underneath Courtney and rocketed to second at the line.

Bell had the high-line working to perfection and, in almost no time, Bayston's one-second lead had ceased to exist. Bell took his first swing in turn three on lap 24, diving to the bottom and springing to the top to briefly hold the position. Bayston never wavered from the middle, kept the wheels straight and retook the position by a car length at the stripe.

Bell immediately aimed low once again to repeat the move, but Bayston anticipated the move and snatched the bottom line first entering turn one as Bell shot back up to the razor-thin cushion and surfed it exquisitely around Bayston to retake the point.

"Christopher showed me his nose and I tried to nail my line in one and two to get in front of him up top," Bayston details. "He was able to squeak by. It seemed like he was up there the whole race and had it figured out. It took me too long to get going before I was able to get back to him."

Bell started to pull away and appeared destined for Lincoln glory, but a caution a lap later for a D.J. Raw spin on lap 26 bunched up the field and provided Bayston another opportunity, something that Bell was not too fond of.

"I felt like the last yellow hurt me pretty badly because I was getting going on the fence when it came out," Bell said. "You really have to pay attention to hit your marks and, thankfully, I was able to pick my marks back up."

Bell's marks were superb, no doubt, but Bayston was hoping to throw a bit of dissonance into the situation as he fired a slider into the first turn on the final restart. Bell, whose midget racing roots were planted at this venue earlier in the decade, was forced to come off the comfort of the cushion and duck his nose toward the middle. Bell made slight contact with Bayston's tail tank with his right front wheel as he entered the middle of a three-car sandwich off turn two that witnessed the reemergence of Courtney. Courtney held the advantage by a half-car length before Bell's momentum pushed him past to a race lead he would ultimately tie up, stamp and deliver.

Courtney and Bayston exchanged the second and third spots multiple times in the final laps with Bayston having to slide job Courtney in turn three on both the 27th and 28th circuits before securing the position for good.

After a race-long sparring match with Courtney, then Bayston, Bell would cruise to a relatively comfortable 2.173-second margin of victory over Bayston and Courtney, who all finished in the same order for the second consecutive night. Golobic and Jerry Coons, Jr. rounded out the top-five.

It was Bell's 19th career USAC National Midget victory in the Keith Kunz-Curb-Agajanian Motorsports/DeWalt - TRD/Bullet by Spike/Speedway Toyota, tying him with Coons, Stan Fox and Jason Leffler for 32nd on the all-time list.

Lebanon, Indiana's Spencer Bayston led 15 laps and was in position to win for the second time in three races, but had to settle for his second 2nd place finish in as many nights in his Keith Kunz-Curb-Agajanian Motorsports/Curb Records - TRD/Bullet by Spike/Speedway Toyota. In the process, Bayston emerged with the series point lead by 21 markers over Brady Bacon.

"Last year, I raced all season thinking about points. This year, I'm trying not to do that," Bayston explains. "Obviously, coming home second tonight, (crewman) Big Al (Scroggins) has given me good cars these last couple nights. I thought we kind of had it there early on. I was able to get to the lead, but I was a sitting duck when the line I was running started to go away in turns one and two. Christopher went to work up top, but once I got up there, it took a couple laps for me to get it figured out and that's when he walked away from me. The crew's been working really hard and the results are really starting to show, but I admit I'm starting to get tired of finishing second."

Bayston refused to disappear when he lost the lead to his teammate with five to go, utilizing one final slider on the last restart for a shot at victory.

"Looking back, I think it might've been a smarter decision to stay in line and figure it out before I pursued him," Bayston believes. "I was worried he'd get away from me and that was going to be my one and only shot. I felt like I had a good enough restart, but he had the momentum and was able to get right back around me. It's another second-place run, but we're happy. We'll move on to the next one and learn from this."

Tyler Courtney of Indianapolis, Indiana raced to a sixth-consecutive top-five finish, finishing third in his Clauson-Marshall Racing/Driven 2 Save Lives - Indiana Donor Network/Spike/Stanton SR-11.

"It's not exactly the night we wanted," Courtney lamented. "Obviously, you always want to win, but we were just a little off tonight. We got third again, which doesn't feel all the great right now, but for big picture purposes, we're doing what we need to do. We just got to keep running up front and knocking down podium finishes."

Kyle Larson Earns First Central PA Victory
Spring Run, PA – July 3, 2017 – The Elk Grove, C.A. native, Kyle Larson, crossed a victory off of his bucket list Sunday evening at Path Valley Speedway for Fred Rahmer Promotions Pennsylvania Speedweek event in front of a standing room only crowd.

The fourth annual Fred Rahmer Promotions event at the ¼-mile dirt track marked night three for Pennsylvania Speedweek.

Tyler Walker and Brock Zearfoss led the 24-car field to the initial green flag for the 40-lap main event.

Right from the drop of the green Zearfoss quickly grabbed the lead as they dove into turn one and two over Walker as Walker scattered and fell back to fifth-place.

Zearfoss caught lap traffic on lap five as fourth-place starter, Larson, began to put pressure on his rear bumper
Larson was able to take aantage of the lapped traffic and drive his car through multiple racing lanes to slide by Zearfoss for the lead on lap seven.

“Zearfoss was good all day,” Larson said. “Traffic was really intense. He got caught up in traffic and it got really tight in one and two. I got underneath him and just tried making sure I hit my marks.”

Sixth-place starter, Rico Abreu, began to real in on Zearfoss for second right before the second caution of the night waved on lap ten.

Kyle Moody, who started eighth, snuck under Wolfe on the backstretch and advanced to fourth-place on lap 18.

Pole starter, Walker, and Dan Shetler made contact and spun going into turn three on lap 19, bringing out the third caution of the night.

Larson led the field at the halfway mark over Zearfoos, Wolfe, Moody and Abreu.

At the checkers it was all Larson as he drove his No.24 sprint car to victory lane to pick up the $5,000 payday.

“It feels good,” smiled Larson in victory lane. “It’s been tough for me a few times when I’ve come out to Central PA. I know this isn’t your typical PA racetrack but I’m counting it as a win. Hats off to my crew. I honestly didn’t feel that good at the start of the feature but we got rolling pretty good. We got decent there late.”

Sunday evening was Larson’s first ever Central PA victory.
“It’s always tough when you come to PA,” he said. “To get a win here has been on my bucket list. I struggled here in 2012 and 2013 when I came out here so it’s cool to get a win on our first night of Speedweek. Hopefully we get some more. We have three more nights to get some wins.”

Runner up, Zearfoss, was bummed with his cars performance but was overall satisfied to finish second to Larson.

“We started out pretty good,” said Zearfoss. “I just need to get a little better in traffic. This is what Larson races on all the time so finishing second to him was pretty cool. I wish we could have beat him. I got under him a couple times there. Second place still isn’t bad though, so we’ll take it.

Wolfe in the No.24 sprint car capped off the evening with a third-place finish.

“It was an exciting feature,” said Wolfe. “With all of the holes in different spots it was hard to predict what was going to happen especially with fuel early. Everybody made it through the first couple of laps. There were certain spots in traffic where it was pretty tight. It got pretty racy the last 20-laps which gave me a few different options to move around. Fortunately we were able to salvage a different night here and come in third.”

The 600cc Micro Sprints were removed from the schedule after an incident on the track during their first heat race. The driver was treated by emergency personnel immediately according to safety protocol and was transported. The Rahmer family is hoping for the best for the injured driver.

HOT LAPS: NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES PRESENTS PA SPRINT CAR SPEEDWEEK ACTION ON TUESDAY, JULY 4 AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA (July 4, 2017) – NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series brings the twenty-third running of Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speed week to Grandview Speedway on Tuesday, July 4.

To put some heat in your motors, here are the top stories heading into the Grandview Speedweek event.

THE ACTION -- The 35-lap, $5,000-to-win 410 Sprint Car event is the fifth of a ten-race stretch for competitors, while the 358 NASCAR Modified’s $3,000-to-win race allows Grandview’s premier weekly division to show off their action-enticing style.

Both divisions will participate in a full qualifying program. The 410s will time trial, to set up heat race line-ups, and then compete in a B-Main to line up the A-Main. Inversions will mix the line-ups throughout the night.

For the Modifieds, a blind draw will set the heat race line-ups, and a top-12 redraw will set the feature event, with the consolations filling in the remaining qualifying spots.

NEUTRAL GROUND – This Season, Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek makes up the first of two 410 Sprint Car events at Grandview Speedway. Without weekly 410 competition, Grandview becomes a level playing field for all competitors – which means anything can happen on the one-third mile.

FROM DAYTONA TO DIRT – Race fans are buzzing with excitement for NASCAR Cup Series competitors Kyle Larson and Kasey Kahne. Both drivers competed Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway before heading out to start their Pennsylvania Speedweek.

Larson claimed Sunday’s win at Path Valley Speedway – his first in Central Pennsylvania. With two Cup Series victories, Larson currently leads the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Standings. Larson’s previous Grandview Speedway start resulted in a third-place finish in 2012.

In 2003, Kahne finished in 13th position at Grandview Speedway.

PERFECT 10 – Greg Hodnett has dominated at Grandview Speedway the past few years, claiming five of the past nine 410 Sprint Car main events. A win in Tuesday’s Speedweek event will mark Hodnett’s tenth Thunder on the Hill victory, leaving him tied for second place on the All-Time Sprint Car win list. Billy Pauch is the winningest Sprint Car driver with 11 victories.

ALL EYES ON DOUBLE D – Danny Dietrich’s 2015 win in the Inaugural Thunder Cup ended Greg Hodnett’s 5-Race win streak, Dietrich became the first driver since 2011 to beat Hodnett. Dietrich will be one to watch on Tuesday.

WALKER SPRINT CAR RANGER – Before Dietrich ended Hodnett’s win streak, it was California-native Tyler Walker who picked up two consecutive PA Speedweek wins in 2010 and 2011. Walker returns to the Bechtelsville oval for the first time in five years.

FAST FREDDIE REDUX – His last name is Rahmer, his first name is Freddie, but he doesn’t have 30 Speedweek wins -- He’s the 21-year-old son of the Sprint Car legend, and he picked up the opening night Speedweek win at Williams Grove Speedway. Dubbed ‘Faster Freddie’ by race fans, Rahmer leads the PA Speedweek Championship standings heading into Monday’s Lincoln Speedway event.

THUNDER FROM DOWN UNDER – When you think Pennsylvania Speedweek at Grandview your first thought isn’t James McFadden – but in his only Grandview Speedway start (2012) McFadden brought home an impressive second-place finish. Such a strong run on ‘The Hill’ makes you a threat for the $5,000 Speedweek win.

FAN INFORMATION – General Admission gates open at 5 PM on Tuesday, July 4. The Low Down and Dirty Radio Show Driver Meet and Greet will take place from 5-6 PM and feature the popular driver of The Warko Group No. 94, Ryan Smith. Warm-Ups will start at 6:45 PM, with 410 Sprint Car Time Trials at 7:30 PM.

General Admission tickets are $25 for Adults, $10 for Children (6-11), and Kids under 6 are always FREE! Pit Admission is $35, and no license is required.

Fans may camp out at the Speedway for the ultimate Speedweek experience. Campers are asked to park in the turn 4 parking area, there are no hook-ups available, and no box camping allowed. Track officials ask that all fires be contained. There is no fee for camping.

THUNDER ON THE HILL FAN FUN – Fans are encouraged to sign-up for the Inside-Out Program, a free fan experience that allows you to watch 410 Sprint Car and Modified Warm-Ups from the infield of Grandview Speedway.

Along with Inside-Out fans are encouraged to sign-up for free tours of the jam-packed pit area. Sign Ups are available inside the main gate with the Thunder Girls.

JOE THE PIZZA DUDE – Joe ‘The Pizza Dude’ will offer up delicious (and Free!) pizzas to the rowdiest of race fans. Keep an eye out after the National Anthem, when Kressley Auto and Truck Center, along with Harry’s U-Pull-It and Northern Valley Erectors present Joe ‘The Pizza Dude’.
