PICKENS DOUBLES DOWN AT PUTNAMVILLE FOR 2ND STRAIGHT INDIANA MIDGET WEEK VICTORY

By: Richie Murray - USAC Media

Putnamville, Indiana......June 8, 2017 - A standing ovation is reserved for a performance that transcends the ordinary.

What is considered the common or run-of-the-mill may be admirable, but when an individual witnesses one of those handful of instances when the stars align to create a lasting image that will be ingrained in memory, the event is elevated to a status above the norm.

Michael Pickens performance in the final laps of Thursday's Indiana Midget Week round at Lincoln Park Speedway was certainly not ordinary and the audience responded in kind by rising to their feet and applauding the New Zealand driver who captivated them in a mesmerizing five-lap sequence.

One night after bringing a healthy contingent of supporters from his homeland to their feet with a victory at Gas City, Pickens directed an academy award winning performance. In true dramatic fashion, Pickens kept the large crowd in suspense as he saved his best performance for the final act, swapping the race lead back-and-forth between he and Spencer Bayston in a dramatic finish that's fate wasn't decided until the final corner.

Pickens' victory brought race fans to a fever pitch as the veteran driver finally begins to receive his due as one of the top drivers in the sport of midget racing and an international racing star with his electric stage act that has the U.S. midget racing scene abuzz.

Pickens' night began in a completely different light after pulling off in the first practice session without taking a single lap at speed. Apparently, two laps were all that were necessary as the 34-year-old from Auckland set ProSource Fast Qualifying time in his Brett & Leigh Morris/Seamount Racing - Tony Elliott Foundation/King/GRD Toyota.

Funny enough, after being docked two rows in Wednesday night's feature at Gas City for arriving late to pre-race staging, Pickens was the first car to hit the track Thursday at Lincoln Park, making sure that he wouldn't have to make his job any more difficult than it already was.

Pickens would start six, but for the third consecutive night, USAC/ARDC point leader Alex Bright began the feature event from the pole and, as he did in the IMW opener at Montpelier, would jump his way out to the lead on the opening lap.

Back a handful of positions behind Bright was fifth-running Pickens who, on the fifth lap would find himself nearly running into trouble as he got sideways and airborne after elevating all four wheels off the ground. He would gather it up and ride on, but not without losing a position to drop to six.

While much of the field remained on the bottom, Bayston was the top front runner to venture to the outside and pass at will in the first third of the 30-lap event. Sure enough, those dues he paid up top would pay off as he entered the top-three on the eighth lap around the outside of Chad Boat, then swooped to the bottom to swipe Boat's line away on the bottom entry into turn one.

Bayston's crew had replaced the powerplant of the No. 97 prior to the feature event after finishing second in the third heat race. The engine was a songbird as Bayston stuck to his guns to complete the same move on Brent Beauchamp for second into the first turn on lap 11 and, a lap later, the lead would be his own after utilizing another outside pass around A. Bright.

Immediately, Bayston opened up a substantial gap for the lead until a lap 15 yellow for a Tyler Thomas/Brayton Lynch turn two tangle brought out the yellow at the halfway point. Shortly after the ensuing restart, eighth-running Gage Walker received contact to the rear bumper that sent him sideways at the entrance of turn three, collecting Lynch, as another yellow flag hit the speedway.

Time and again, Bayston was a force on the restarts and, on the lap 17 resumption, the 2015 series Rookie of the Year would jump out to an eight car-length lead over Bright. With 12 to go, the push was on as Bright slid up the track in turn two, allowing Boat to squeeze underneath for second.

Meanwhile, Pickens began to pound the cushion entering turn one with the right rear, then instantly flicked the steering wheel to the left and used the momentum from diamonding down the hill to blast around Bright for third.

Following a caution for the stoppage of reigning Putnamville Indiana Midget Week winner Tanner Thorson and Ronnie Gardner, Pickens continued to hold down his own patented line, entering turn one higher than any man or woman had ventured as he kept tabs on Bayston.

An outside backstretch pass for second around Boat moved Pickens to second on the leaderboard with just eight laps remaining. With anticipation building and senses working overtime, the decreasing gap between the two was increasingly visible as voices from the crowd began to murmur in excitement about the potential finish with the tension so evident, you could feel it seeping into your pores.

Pickens had closed to the tail of Bayston with five to go when sixth-running Brent Beauchamp attempted to exit the track after losing power, but was not able to get far away enough off the racing surface to set up one final shootout for the win.

The final five laps will be remembered for those in attendance as one of the most exciting midget racing duels in Lincoln Park Speedway's history, immediately bringing to mind Kyle Larson and Bryan Clauson's savage duel in 2011. Yet again, though, Bayston was strong enough on the restart to gap Pickens who stayed true to the top and his diamonding pattern off turns one and three to find any extra ounce of speed he could get like a downhill skier.

On laps 26, 27 and 28, Pickens was able to get a big enough launch from the turn one berm, but the momentum would cease off the exit where Bayston was strong enough to keep Pickens an arm's distance away. Through turns three and four, Bayston took the high road as Pickens followed suit.

Coming to the white flag, Pickens attacked the cushion like a rabid animal, lifting the left side wheels off the ground as he flat-footed the turn three cushion and countered underneath off of four to beat Bayston to the stripe with one to go. Pickens, who had so spectacularly executed the entry into turn one time-after-time, wasn't so graceful on his final entry as he bounced his way through the corner, getting completely with a half-spin that caused a slight disruption in his rhythm before pointing his car in the right direction as Bayston pulled alongside underneath.

Amazingly, little ground was lost as Pickens regained control and stood on the pedal to pull even with Bayston halfway down the back straight. Both entered the high line in three with Bayston a couple car lengths ahead, but Pickens had his plan stapled to his mind as he countered below Bayston in a wheel-to-wheel drag race to the line that Pickens prevailed in by a single car length.

It was Pickens fourth-career USAC National Midget victory and his second in as many nights to become the first driver to win consecutive races in a single Indiana Midget Week since Bryan Clauson in 2009! By virtue of finishes of 2nd, 1st and 1st in the first three Indiana Midget Week feature, Pickens now holds a 31-point lead over Brady Bacon at the midway point of the six-race series.

Lebanon, Indiana's Spencer Bayston just narrowly missed his second career USAC win and his second straight year with an Indiana Midget Week victory, coming home second in his Keith Kunz-Curb-Agajanian Motorsports/Curb Records - TRD/Bullet by Spike/Speedway Toyota.

Tyler Courtney's crew had to swap out the engine overnight after mechanical trouble sidelined the Montpelier winner the previous night at Gas City. A rough start and a 20th place starting position would not hold back Courtney as he raced to a third-place finish to earn KSE Racing Products Hard Charger of the Race in his Clauson-Marshall Racing/Driven 2 Save Lives - Indiana Donor Network/Spike/Stanton SR-11.

Contingency award winners Thursday night at Lincoln Park Speedway include Michael Pickens (ProSource Fast Qualifier), Ronnie Gardner (Simpson Race Products First Heat Winner), Tanner Carrick (Competition Suspension, Inc. Second Heat Winner), Alex Bright (Chalk Stix Third Heat Winner), Zach Daum (Indy Race Parts Fourth Heat Winner), Tyler Courtney (KSE Racing Products Hard Charger), Dave Darland (Wilwood Brakes 13th Place Finisher) and Holly Shelton (ProSource Hard Work Award).

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS

Accord, NY- Danny Creeden Smokes The Field To Capture Accord Speedway Modifieds
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media

The 2017 racing season has all of the makings of the summer that was never was as rain, rain and more rain has continuously altered what many families have planned for the so-called summer vacation months. The same can be said for race track promoters as the unpredictable weather has left promoters scrambling for all that can be salvaged. This past Thursday finally saw a break in the weather and placed Promoter Gary Palmer in a total catch-up capacity in order to have the Accord Speedway ready for the Friday night racing action. Palmer accomplished his mission by race time and the seven division show went off without a hitch and produced positive results for some while for others it was back to the shop or garages to attempt to coax more speed out of their race cars. The evening of speed was presented by Williams Lumber. Their website is: www.williamslumber.com The checkered flag bonus was posted by Dreaming of the Mouse Vacations.

Securing wins at the sixth event of the season were "The DC Express" Danny Creeden as he blistered through the field to capture his first Modified win of the season at Accord. Brandon McGill put on a strong show and held off a group of top talent to go on and capture his first win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman division finale. Garden Stater Rich Mellor worked his magic off of the hub rail to earn his first win of the season in his Woodland Trucking sponsored Sprinter. Emerson Cargain Jr regained his winning form to wire the field in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature run. Tyler Banks led all of the way to capture the National tour win in the Want Ad Digest Junior Slingshot main event. "The Italian Stallion" Vinny Visconti earned a hard fought win in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature and it was his first victory at Accord in a full size division racer.

Richie Eurich blasted into the lead at the start of the United Pump & Tank Modified main with Scott Ferrier in tow. Eurich gave way to Scott Ferrier after some laps of trading the lead back and forth with the narrowest of margins. Jimmy Wells made some early move to become a player and Danny Creeden came hustling forward in his Smokers Choice Sponsored hot rod. Creeden made the most of the race track as he closed the distance between he and Wells and then set out after Ferrier. Creeden dogged Ferrier for a few laps and found the winning move off of turn four on lap twenty. Once in front, Creeden became the man with a plan as he led the remaining laps although the final laps produced a strong running Jimmy Wells and he closed the distance but it would be Creeden capturing the win with Wells in a runner-up role. Scott Ferrier was third with Jesse Marks and Danny Tyler from 17th position rounding out the top five. Heading up the second five were Brad Rothaupt, Joe Judge, Richard Smith, Brian Malcolm and Anthony Perrego.

The Arkel Motors Sportsman main proved to be another fantastic show. Brandon McGill outhustled Milton Mann at the start to assume command of the lead but Mann had ideas of his own and began to apply pressure to McGill from all angles of the raceway. At times Mann was able to pull even only to have McGill squeezing a bit more throttle to his racer to remain at the point. After troubles in his heat event relinquished Kyle Rohner to a 20th position start, the former two time track champion blasted forward and by lap seven had moved into the top five. By the midway point, the race was still a five car battle with McGill, Mann and Rohner now stepping away from the field. With five to go, Mann tried again to unseat McGill but McGill remained a tough hombre and fought off the advances to claim his first win of the season. Mann did a great job as he finally was able to finish a race with a fine runner-up performance. Rohner was third in a stellar drive with Jim Johnson and Tony Kowalchuk completing the top five. Tyler Johnston, Cole Hentschel, Robbie Knipe, Leo Fotopolous and Matt Shultz rounded out the top ten.

The Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature attraction found Emerson Cargain jump out front with a great start and although the field remained close it would be Cargain leading all laps on his way to his first victory at the speedway in a few seasons. John Hechinger was second with Chris Kanuk in an excellent run grabbing third place. Travis Brockner, Steve Williams, Ray Tarantino, Allen Tarantino, Harry Bachman and Tanner Granacker completed the field.

Eric Jennings led the first two laps of the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car finale but a slick running Rich Mellor slipped past him with an excellent move off of the baseline to take over the lead. As they raced back into turns one and two Jennings had climbed to the top of the speedway in an attempt to grab the lead but got sideways and ripped the tail tank off of his sprinter. On the restart, Mellor got a challenge from Heidi Hedin but Mellor turned up the wick and raced to his first win of the season. Jeremy Quick raced hard and grabbed up second late in the race with Heidi Hedin third, Larry Ricci and Larry McVay following. .

Vinny Visconti led the first two laps of the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman main but was overtaken by Ryan McCartney on a restart. McCartney would lead for three laps until Visconti would grab the lead back on a restart in lap six. A couple of laps later McCartney and Jake Granacker were seeking the same piece of real estate and got together. On the restart, Visconti was still in command but now would be pressured by Hunter Lapp. Lap twelve found McCartney hard into the Redi Rock wall. On the final restart Visconti held on and captured his win ever in the full size division race cars. Lapp was second in a great run for him, Jimmy Devitt was third, George Begg fourth and Jared Miller fifth. John Miller, Michael Corbin, Jake Granacker, RJ Daley and Tanner Johnson rounded out the top ten.

The National Tour for the Want Ad Digest Junior Slingshot main event found Tyler Banks hustling his JCO Environmental Services hot rod to the front from his outside pole start. Banks pulled away from the field and built up a good lead until young Brock Pinkerous became involved in a losing battle with the second turn boiler plated and getting upside down. Pinkerous was unhurt in the incident. On the restart, it was still Banks at the point but Jake Mason, who was on a five feature win streak at Accord, came a calling. Mason tried everything he had to unseat Banks and even ran side by side on a couple of laps but it would be Tyler Banks earning his first win at Accord and on the National Tour circuit. Mason was a solid second with Tanner VanDoren third, Tyler Ulsh fourth, Shelby McLaughlin fifth and Adam Buchel sixth. Nico Flammer has been a strong runner all season but as he made a bid in his heat event, something went amiss with his racer and withdrew for the evening.

GEMSTONES:

Racing began later than normal as Promoter Gary Palmer put in a ton of extra hours to have the track ready and racy for the evening's events. He accomplished his mission as the track saw four channels of racing taking place and some dared to go five wide. Unfortunately, lightning struck the lap counter during the week and was rendered unusable for the evening.

Heat races were run off quickly and Rich Mellor captured the lone heat for the sprinters. Tanner VanDoren and Tyler Banks captured the Junior Slingshot heats. Rookie heats were claimed by Vinny Visconti and Tanner Johnson. The lone Pure Stock heat was captured by John Hechinger. Sportsman heats went to Leo Fotopolous, Tony Kowalchuk and Robbie Knipe. Modified heats found Danny Creeden, Richie Eurich and Brian Malcolm capturing wins.

Mike Traver returned to action in the Sportsman. Allan Tarantino returned to action in the Pure Stocks. Junior Slingshot drivers included Nico Flammer, Tyler Ulsh, Tanner VanDoren, Adam Buchel, Shelby McLaughlin and Kyle Swart.

The fine folks at Williams Lumber brought out one of their trucks to pace the Modified feature and Sue and Gleason headed up the contingent of Williams folks enjoying the races. They brought along T-shirts, carry bags and hats that were handed out to the feature event winners while Miss Accord Speedway, Michelle Campbell offered shirt and hats out to the crowd.

Grandma Ann's Pies were also handed out to all of the feature winners.

Sweet Battles Rubber to Take Night One at Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, IA - June 9, 2017 - Kasey Kahne Racing driver Brad Sweet scored his second consecutive win (after last week's Jackson Nationals win), second Knoxville Raceway career win, and fourth win of the season during Night One of the Brownells Big Guns Bash at Knoxville Raceway, leading all 25 laps of the Feature from green to checkers after starting on the pole.

The battle between the Outlaws and Team Knoxville began with one of each in the front row - Sweet and Brian Brown. But the unexpected challenger appeared in the form of rubber about 15 laps into the race.

"It's good to be out front when the rubber went down there. I just had to search around," said Sweet. "I made a lot of mistakes there, and honestly, we have a little bit of work to do. We were better earlier in the night and weren't that great right there, for whatever reason, but obviously good enough to hold off Donny and David Gravel. So we must have been pretty good."

Sweet quickly shot to the lead at the start of the race, leaving the battle behind him as first David Gravel and then Shane Stewart fought past Brown, exchanging slide jobs for third.

By Lap 4, Donny Schatz was in on the action, making an outside pass on Brown for fourth. But he didn't stop there. Ten laps in, Schatz sailed past Stewart, after which he began making his play for second. But Gravel wasn't having it.

With ten laps to go, Gravel closed in on Sweet, but the rubber got the better of him.

"I was just conserving my tires there," said Gravel. "Once it took rubber I knew that I didn't really have a shot. I would have liked to have seen if that didn't take rubber. I think it would have been a really good race. I thought I was gaining on [Sweet] and then kind of started taking rubber. We did the best we could tonight."

A few laps later, with seven to go, Gravel was having to fend off Schatz just to hold onto second.

"Actually, I think our car got really good there in the rubber," said Schatz. "At that point you have nothing to hold back on if you're going to try to win the race. They weren't going to make that big a mistake, but we were trying. We were trying to get around [Gravel] and just couldn't make it happen."

Despite the rubbered up top groove, the Outlaws beat out Team Knoxville in Night One, taking all three podium spots with Sweet at the helm, followed by Gravel and Schatz. Knoxville regulars Kerry Madsen and Brian Brown came in fifth and sixth respectively, followed by Hard Charger Ian Madsen, who worked his way up from 13. Last year's Knoxville Nationals Champion Jason Johnson followed I. Madsen in eighth.

The action continues Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway.

Carson Macedo runs away at Lincoln Speedway; earns first-ever Arctic Cat All Star victory by nearly five seconds

LINCOLN, IL (June 9, 2017) - Lemoore, California’s Carson Macedo officially etched his name into the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions’ history books on Friday night at Lincoln (IL) Speedway, conquering the non-stop, 35-lap main event by nearly five seconds over Paul Nienhiser and Chad Kemenah, earning $5,000 in the process.

Macedo, who started second on the main event grid aboard the Lucas Oil/Weld Wheels/XYZ Machining/No. 3G, made it look effortless at the Lincoln, Illinois, quarter-mile; driving by pole sitter and current Arctic Cat All Star point leader Chad Kemenah on lap seven, ultimately cruising ahead to put 13 cars at least one lap behind, even maintaining his command during periods of heavy traffic. The Arctic Cat All Star victory was a first-ever for Carson Macedo, becoming just the second winner in Series history at Lincoln Speedway.

“A monkey could have driven this car tonight,” Carson Macedo said in victory lane. “This thing was incredible all night long; absolutely phenomenal to drive. I can’t thank everyone enough who makes this possible for me. To come out here and race with these guys and come out on top says so much. This is awesome.”

Alvada, Ohio’s Chad Kemenah set the early pace, leading the first six circuits ahead of local favorite Bret Tripplett and former King of the West champion Carson Macedo. Macedo moved into the runner-up position permanently on lap four, transferring his sights to the Hunter Racing/Seneca Energy/No. 10H. A two-lap battle with Kemenah soon turned into a takeover attempt for Macedo, eventually driving around the defending Arctic Cat All Star champion on the topside of the speedway.

While Macedo pulled away at the top of the running order, a battle for second would soon commence with Chad Kemenah, Ryan Smith and fourth row starter Paul Nienhiser all involved. By lap 27, Nienhiser solidified himself in the second position, surviving a two-lap, side-by-side battle with Kemenah. By the time the Chapin, Illinois, native started to close the gap on Macedo, time was already out.

“Our goal is to repeat tomorrow night at Macon Speedway,” Macedo explained. “This is a great team; Joe (Gaerte), Tim and Cindy Norman. I can't thank them all enough for this opportunity.”

With race-to-race travel time a mere 45 minutes, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will continue their weekend road trip through the Midwest with a Saturday night visit to the Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois; the self-proclaimed “World’s Fastest 1/5-Mile Clay Oval.” Despite its Central Illinois locale, the smallest oval on the 2017 Arctic Cat All Star schedule has hosted “America’s Series” on seven separate occasions since 1981, the most recent in 2004. Greg Wilson, a former Arctic Cat All Star Series champion, is the last to visit Macon Speedway victory lane during Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions competition.

Macon Speedway will open pit gates at 3:00pm on Saturday, June 10. General admission gates are scheduled to open to the public at 4:00pm, with racing to hit center stage at 7:00pm, sharp. Those seeking additional information, such as reserved seat information and ticket prices, should visit Macon Speedway live on the Web at www.maconracing.com.

About the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions:
All Star Enterprises, LLC, wholly owned by Tony Stewart, d/b/a the All Star Circuit of Champions, is a winged sprint car series. The All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series is one of the oldest traveling 410 sprint car organizations and is a staple of grassroots, open-wheel racing. Formed in 1970 by Bud Miller, the series has largely been considered the first 'outlaw' Sprint Car organization of the modern era. After a 10 year stint as owner of the All Stars, Miller passed control of the series to Bert Emick in 1980; a reign that would continue through 2002. Guy Webb then purchased the series from Emick in the summer of 2002 and served as the series President for the next 12 years. Motorsports entrepreneur Tony Stewart agreed to terms with Guy Webb to become the sole owner of the original winged sprint car tour in January of 2015.

THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES

AMSOIL USAC NON-WING SPRINT EASTERN STORM HEADING EAST, GRANDVIEW & LINCOLN TO OPEN SERIES TUESDAY, JUNE 13 AND WEDNESDAY, JUNE 14

USAC DRIVER NICKNAMES, DO THEY TELL A STORY ABOUT THE DRIVERS?

We’re just days away from the arrival of USAC drivers from California to Pennsylvania, heading east to open the 11th Annual Eastern Storm, getting underway at the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series event at the Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night, June 13. The following night, Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA will showcase this traveling series of non-wing 410 sprint cars joined by the 358 wing sprint cars. Both nights of racing will get underway at 7:30 PM.

The Eastern Storm will continue on Thursday night, June 15 at Williams Grove then close out the weekend on Saturday night, June 17 at Port Royal and Sunday night, June 18 at the Susquehanna Speedway. This will mark the eleventh annual swing of USAC here in the east, a tour organized by local special events organizer Bob Miller.

Nationally known drivers from numerous states are heading east for this five race series offering over $135,000 in prize money. Many of these drivers are heading to town with a nickname attached to them for one reason or another. But what do these nicknames tell us about these drivers?

We can start with Chris Windom from Canton, IL who is known as “The Bear”. There is also Robert Ballou from Rocklin, CA who earned the nickname “The Madman”, certainly explainable if you watched him power his way through Pennsylvania on previous Eastern Storms. One other point, Ballou sustained injuries last year in a crash that put him on the sidelines the balance of the year. In just his second start since the crash, “The Madman” was a feature winner. Is that mad or what?

Carmen Perigo of Stoystown, PA is labeled with, “Wind it Up and Watch Him Go”, not much to explain on this one. Now a little more interesting is Tyler Courtney of Indianapolis, IN who is known as “Sunshine”. What’s the story on that one?

Driver’s names also have something to do with those labels or nicknames. For example, Thomas Meseraull of San Jose, CA goes by “T-Mez”, the very popular Jerry Coons, Jr of Tucson, AZ known as “Coon Dog” as Kevin Thomas Jr of Cullman, AL goes by “KTJ”.

Perhaps your hometown has something to do with your nickname, like Chad Boespflug of Hanford, CA. Chad is well recognized as the “Hanford Hornet”, known for stinging the competition and stirring a buzz with the crowd. There is also Tony Dimattia of Malvern, PA, known as the “Malvern Missile”.

Now there are still two drivers that you might want to ask about their nicknames. First, Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, CA who goes by, “The Macho Man” and local favorite Danny Dietrich is “Double D”. How did those nicknames come about?

Last but certainly not least, one of the most recognized USAC drivers, Dave Darland of Lincoln, IN was named by the race fans, “The People’s Champ”.

The Amsoil USAC Non-Wing Sprints Eastern Storm will open at the Grandview Speedway on Tuesday, June 13. This will also mark the opening event of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings. If you have never seen a non-wing 410 sprint car race (especially at Grandview Speedway) this is the show to see.

The Tuesday, June 13 event at Grandview Speedway will get underway at 7:30 PM. Joining the USAC non-wing sprints on the program will be the 358 Modifieds chasing a $3,000 payday for the 30 lap run. Craig VonDohren, Duane Howard, Jeff Strunk, Ryan Godown, Billy Pauch Jr., Ryan Watt, Rick Laubach and Frank Cozze, are some of the expected modified entries. Qualifying will take place for both divisions.

Other USAC entries to expect include Fort Branch, Indiana’s Chase Stockon, Kokomo, IN driver Shane Cottle, Sikeston, MO favorite Hunter Schuerenberg, and Landon Simon of Tipp City Ohio. I’m sure we all remember the 2016 Grandview performance by Mooresville, North Carolina’s driver Jarett Andretti, almost taking the win. Tyler Courtney of Indianapolis, IN, and Greenfield, IN driver C.J. Leary are hoping to break through for an Eastern Storm taste of victory.

On the local scene, Danny Dietrich a 410 sprint car feature winner at Grandview and the winner of the 2016 National Open at Williams Grove, plans to make his initial foray into USAC for Eastern Storm on the “hill” at Grandview. Defending ARDC Midget champion and 2016 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals preliminary feature winner Alex Bright, is a regular in USAC’s midget division, and will try his hand for the first time in a USAC Sprint Car.

Hamlin, PA - Eight Features Highlight Superb Racing Action At Hamlin Speedway
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

Finally! The warm summer weather took an extra long time in getting here and it was a welcome addition to the Pocono Mountains for the nice crowd who came out to the Hamlin Speedway as the Smith Family and Staff presented a superb eight feature race card on Saturday evening. Hamlin Speedway Promoter Randy Smith had the 1/5th mile clay cushioned oval "fit as a fiddle" and the 114 entries signed in for the evening used every inch of the raceway to carve out a wonderful night of entertainment for the appreciative crowd. The Smith Family orchestrated the eight feature event program by 10:20 PM in the evening as some of the top stars at the speedway strutted their stuff while some new faces also found out it feels very good to be sitting at the top of the racing podium.

The first edition of the NASCAR Crew Challenge was on tap for the evening and the guys from the traveling race series take great pride into mastering the short track. Bragging rights in the NASCAR garage area always exemplifies which crew member was at the top of his game on the speedway.

The All Star Slingshot feature headliner was captured by "The Sandman" Troy Langendoerfer, who showed the 26-car field the quick way around the Hamlin clay. "The Big Show" Joey Amantea captured his second win of the season in the JPA Masonry sponsored Wingless Rookie 600 main event. Jenna Schostkewitz took command of the lead after the halfway mark to score her fourth win of the season in Wingless 270 Sprint action. Mike Taylor found the speedway much to his liking as he carved out his first win of the season in the Super Slinger encounter. Tyler Banks had the best weekend of his young lifetime as he won the National Tour event at Accord on Friday night and towed to Hamlin for the Saturday action and came away with his first ever win at Hamlin in a wire to wire run in the Junior Slingshot finale. "The Jersey Force" Anthony Recchio led all of the way to claim his win of the season in the Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modifieds. "The Electric Man" Colin White, even though a track champion in the past, captured his first ever win at Hamlin with a last lap pass of JD Casazza as they drove for the finish line in the Wingless 600 Sprint finale. captured win number in his sponsored speed wagon. Lowell, North Carolina resident Jason "Spanky" Edison found his car choice to be a sound one as he raced the Gilroy Motorsports hot rod to a solid win over Kevin White in the NASCAR Crew Challenge.

Troy Langendoerfer grabbed the lead at the start of the All Star Slingshot feature event. Tess Horvath and Josh Marcus fell in behind him with Cody Kline quickly hustling into fourth place. The field remained tightly bunched as the two and three wide and sometimes four wide racing action was spectacular with drivers pulling out the stops to gain a position or two. Langendoerfer was in the zone and separated himself from the rest of the field while the rest of the field continuously waged a war for position. Langendoerfer proved to be the man of the hour as he captured his first All Star win of the season after beginning the season with a series of misfortunes. Tess Horvath, Josh Marcus, Cody Kline and Tyler Peet completing the top five. The second five were Jared Silfee, Mike McLaughlin, Austin Silfee, Nick Delcampo and Cole Stangle. Twenty one cars finished on the lead lap.

The Super Slingers main event found Mike Taylor with the hot hand as he blasted out of the starting gate at the drop of the green flag and led all of the way to capture his first win of the season in a tough battle over Dale Kober, Jason Edison, Jeff Haduck, Roger Collins and Kevin White.

Kyle Ferrucci led through the first twelve laps of the Wingless 270 Sprint main but Jenna Schostkewitz put on a whale of a show as she overcame Ferrucci's lead and slipped past him on lap thirteen. Once in front, Schostkewitz raced away to a comfortable win, her fourth of the season. Ferrucci was second in an outstanding drive with Glenn Macomber, Paul Richards Jr, the returning Tony Iudicello, Don Schmidt, Alex Reinsmith and Randy Gombert.

The starting car field for the Junior Slingshots has displayed some amazing talent thus far in 2017 and "the stars of tomorrow" have been great show after show this season. Colton Geary was turned around on the initial start, allowing Tyler Banks to start alongside of James Benz on the restart. Banks grabbed the lead in turn one with Benz in tow. Seventh starting Jake Mason began to make moves as did sixth starting Austin Homan. Homan got into the runner-up slot and put pressure on Banks but Banks fought off the advances lap after lap. Homan would eventually get into turn three too hot and spun around causing a restart. When racing resumed it would be Banks now be fighting off advances from Jake Mason but it would Tyler Banks racing to victory for his second win in two nights. Mason had a great run in second with Shelby McLaughlin, Adam Buchel and James Benz completing the top five. Colton Geary recovered from his first lap spin and came back strong for sixth place with invader Nicho Flammer, Abby Yates, Austin Homan and Tommy Stillo completing the top ten.

The start of the Rookie 600 Wingless Sprint event found Joey Amantea charging out front at the start and he would quickly separate himself from the rest of the field. A Tyler Lindsey spin after the halfway point brought the field together with track champion Jakson Ring now on Amantea's tailpipe. Ring would try high and low to unseat Amantea but the first year driver kept his cool and raced to his second victory of the season. Ring was second in his return to action after a few weeks away. Tony Parlanti was third with Carmen Leggio Sr and Joe Nemeth completing the top five.

JD Casazza led the way in the Wingless 600 Sprint feature. A tremendous amount of passing took place in the early laps as the drivers worked hard to find their fast spot on the speedway. Damon Paul, Joel Smith, Colin White and Mick D'Agostino all found the channel they liked but it was Casazza out front and looking stronger as the event wore on. Paul and Smith would get together, sending both to the rear of the field. Colin White was now in the runner-up slot. White would make overtures for the lead but Casazza was a tough customer and kept the lead. Casazza led on the white flag lap but gave ground between turns three and four and White took a run high and dove back down to the bottom to nip Casazza at the line to claim his first ever 600 Sprint win at the speedway. Casazza was a disappointed second with D'Agostino, Pat Bealer and Ryan Neil completing the top five. Danny Buccafusca headed up the second five with the returning Steven Gully, Chad Sandt, Jacob Balliet and Geordan Marrero completing the top ten.

The Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified event found Anthony Recchio grabbing the lead at the start and just as quickly had Taylor Mills and Joel Smith racing with him for the lead. Recchio was cool and collected as he stayed in the 13.1 second time bracket and slowly pulled away from the field with contenders Zach Marquardt and Joel Smith falling to the wayside with problems. Recchio would race to his third win with his teammate Taylor Mills in the runner-up slot making it a 1-2 finish for the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Race Team. Cole Stangle was third in a great run with Michael Samony and John Mirabelli completing the top five. Cody Motto, Janell Geary and newcomer Mark Corna completed the field.

The NASCAR Crew Challenge is always competitive as each driver yearns for the opportunity to head back to the NASCAR Garage to boast about how he whipped the rest of the field on his way to victory. Jason Edison led all of the way to claim the win with Kevin White, Garrett Peterson, Hayden Reeves, Brad Tunny and Jason Sopczak finishing in that order. "The Minute Man" Eric Penza executed a rollover during the feature but was unhurt in the incident.

PEARL JAMS:

The hotly contested evening of racing entertainment began on time and the staff kept moving the program along swiftly with a couple of breaks taken to put the moisture machine on the track surface and to keep the race track racy throughout the evening. Promoter Randy Smith returned to the speedway after ligament surgery to his hand and it was great to have him back on board.

Newcomers to the speedway included Adam Minzer and Tony Iudicello in the Wingless 270 Sprints. Nicho Flammer, Mikey Johannes and Evan VanValkenburg made their first appearances in the Junior Slingshots, although all have raced at Hamlin in the past. Steven Gully returned to action for the first time in 2017 and did a great job in his return to the speedway.

Heat race wins went to Tyler Banks and Austin Homan in the Junior Slingshots while Justin Mills and Duane White won heats in the 600 Sprints. Kyle Ferrucci captured the heat race win for the Wingless 270 Sprints. Anthony Recchio was victorious in the Stage One Modified heat.
Rookie 6600 Sprint heats went to Carmen Leggio Sr and Joey Amantea.
Super Slingers did time trials with Jeff Haduck the top dog with a 14.346 second clocking. Mike McLaughlin was fast timer for the All Star Slingshots with a 14.285 time.

The speedway held a moment of silence for NASCAR Crewman JR Weller, who lost his battle with cancer on June 5th. JR was 51 years old and from the Pottstown area and was good friends with the Rode's Family.

Announcer Steve Pados interviewed with Jennifer Amantea from JPA Masonry at intermission. Jennifer spoke about her son being involved with racing and how much they love the atmosphere at Hamlin with the many families they have met or have made the transition to Hamlin with them from the Quarter Midget ranks. Jennifer also informed the crowd of the many different offerings from JPA Masonry and she will soon be opening a Real Estate Office on Route 611.

RICO REIGNS SUPREME IN KUNZ/CURB-AGAJANIAN SWEEP AT THE BURG

By: Richie Murray - USAC Media

Lawrenceburg, Indiana....... June 10, 2017 - When you drive for Keith Kunz, you're expected to win. No excuses.

Time and time again, the Columbus, Indiana-based team has provided the machinery that has led to 89 career feature victories and eight championships as a USAC Midget National Championship car entrant. However, throughout the series' first eight events, the venerable team had yet to find victory lane and seemed to be reeling after only one of its five drivers was able to scrape into the top-10 the night prior at Bloomington.

It had been eight years since a Keith Kunz-led team had gone winless this far into the season, but Saturday night at Lawrenceburg Speedway was the night Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports had finally arrived in 2017, and in a big way, as the trio of Rico Abreu, Tanner Thorson and Holly Shelton duplicated Clauson/Marshall Racing's feat from the night before by recording a 1-2-3 to sweep of the top-three spots.

After an unforgettable, dare-devilish race-long battle that saw slide-job after slide-job thrown at Shelton by two of her teammates - Abreu and Spencer Bayston - Abreu was finally able to prevail with three laps remaining to earn his 16th career USAC National Midget win and third straight at Lawrenceburg in his Keith Kunz-Curb-Agajanian Motorsports/Walker Filtration - TRD/Bullet by Spike/Speedway Toyota.

"This week has had a lot of ups and downs, but this is when it all pays off," said a thrilled Abreu. "We were getting dicey up front and I didn't know how I was going to get past them since it was so easy to do a crossover. Once I got my momentum going, I made sure I kept my tires spinning every time I hit the cushion just to help not bog down the engine. These motors are the best in the business. It's a lot of fun to drive these cars when they're on point and tonight, we capitalized on that. We didn't qualify great, though, because I changed up my line in qualifying and that hurt us. I enjoy every moment racing with Keith Kunz and Pete Willoughby. They've been doing it for a long time. It makes it a lot of fun when we get up here and win."

All five of the Kunz/Curb-Agajanian cars occupied the first five rows of Saturday's feature starting lineup, including both spots on the front row with Ryan Robinson on the pole and Holly Shelton outside.

The transcendent story of the night from lap one was Shelton, who rode the cushion through turns one and two, then split between the cars of Justin Grant and Ryan Robinson off turn two to take the lead on the opening lap.

Action stalled at the conclusion of lap one as Indiana Midget Week point leader Michael Pickens got sideways at the top of turn one while battling Rico Abreu for the ninth position. As Pickens sat idle in the middle of the track, Alex Bright, Jerry Coons, Jr. and Adam Pierson plowed into the fracas, ending the night for all four drivers and throwing a monkey wrench into Pickens' quest for a first Indiana Midget Week title.

On lap nine, Bayston began his trail to the front as he slid Justin Grant for second entering the first turn. Grant hit the cush, sending him sideways into a half-spin through the second turn before regaining control. However, Bayston had secured the spot and began making strides toward the direction of race leader Shelton.

With Pickens out of the night's picture, USAC National Midget point leader Brady Bacon was poised to put his stamp on overtaking the Kiwi for the IMW lead. However, misfortune would befall Bacon on the 11th lap when he slowed to a halt to bring out a yellow. He would finish 16th.

Bayston took a run at the lead on the ensuing restart with a turn one slider across the nose of Shelton, but Shelton countered underneath, crossing over to maintain her race lead.

Meanwhile, the Kunz/Curb-Agajanian car that started furthest back in the pack, driven by Abreu, had subsequently advanced his way from tenth to fifth prior to the yellow. On the 13th lap, Abreu poked his nose to the outside on the front straight before tearing between the two Clauson/Marshall cars of Tyler Courtney and Grant at the entry of one to take third.

Shelton and Bayston remained the main players of the contest further ahead. Bayston was relentless, refusing to stay content and ride around on a rail behind Shelton. The second half of the 30-lapper began with Bayston throwing another jab at Shelton in one as he slid up to take away Shelton's line on the brim. Shelton appeared unfazed and unafraid to keep her foot on the gas as she escaped from Bayston around the outside by the width of a strand of hair off turn two to stay atop the pylon.

The duel at the front allowed Abreu to rapidly join in on the high-speed team meeting between Shelton and Bayston. Bayston tried with all his might, but time-after-time, the second verse was the same as the first on both ends of the racetrack as Bayston's repeated sliders came up empty handed and Shelton calmly steered back under to take the lead right back.

On the 22nd lap, Bayston finally found enough speed off the fourth corner to nip Shelton by mere inches at the line. Immediately, the two entered turn one side-by-side, yet both simultaneously met in the middle. Both Shelton and Bayston collided, sending each gliding backward toward the outside wall. Somehow, someway, both miraculously found a way to avoid the concrete and a major catastrophe as Rico got on the binders to avoid T-Boning Bayston atop the cushion. Shelton began to distance herself once again, but, unfortunately for Bayston, the smacking of wheels between he and Shelton resulted in a flat left rear tire for which he would have to replace and rejoin the field, albeit out of contention for the win.

"I got a pretty poor restart," Shelton recalls. "I saw Spencer slide me and we crossed each other over a few times. Heading into one, we were both going to run the slider line and, unfortunately, I think my right rear tagged him a little bit. I guess he hopped over the cushion. I felt bad about it. I hate hitting anybody, let alone my teammate."

With the absence of Bayston, Abreu aptly succeeded in the role of aggressor. On lap 25, Shelton tripped over the turn two cushion, allowing Abreu to get a fantastic run on the back straight into three, but Shelton once again was a stone cold assassin as she snared the lead back once again with five to go.

The tension was pulsating from underneath the covered gransdtand as the raucous crowd was on needles and pins with the realization that they could be a witness to racing history and the first ever female USAC National feature winner. Excitement was palpable as the throng of fans stood and pumped their fists, the roar reverberated off the metal roof and the showdown between the relative newcomer and the confident veteran came down to the quick.

Rico's daring attempt on Shelton with three to go was the golden ticket. It repeatedly appeared that the slider could not stick with Shelton so consistently strong, but Rico stuck to his guns and the move paid off once and for all. Shelton tried to counter, but was only able to muster enough speed off two to pull even alongside Rico on the back straight. Rico carried the torch to the lead into turn three as Thorson outgunned Shelton for second on the white flag lap with a counter-steer of his own off turn two.

For the final two circuits, Rico was scot-free - and Shelton-free, as he extended a tradition of his own as a Lawrenceburg USAC Midget winner for the third time in his last three tries over Thorson, Shelton, Shane Golobic and Tyler Courtney.

Over the years, Abreu has become a certified master of the slide job. The Lawrenceburg surface fits his fearless style like a glove, but knowing when and exactly how to go for the slider is an art form that requires impeccable timing and maintaining a balance of aggressiveness and finesse that keeps one on the edge without going over.

"The bottom was too slow to roll by," Abreu explained. "When you're running that close to other cars and the leader's there, it's easy to make mistakes on the cushion when you don't have anything to compare it to besides the speed of the car in front of you. I love doing slide jobs and running the high side like that. It's all timing. You don't want to be too short on them or shoot too far past the cushion. I just made sure my wheels were spinning every time I got to the cushion. I finally got clear enough of Holly to where I could slide myself in three and four and just break her momentum."

After humble beginnings to his night, defending USAC National Midget champion Tanner Thorson of Minden, Nevada, scored his best finish of Indiana Midget Week Saturday night at Lawrenceburg with a second-place run, sandwiched between his two teammates in the Keith Kunz-Curb-Agajanian Motorsports/JBL Audio - TRD/Bullet by Spike/Speedway Toyota.

"I was kind of sluggish on the start, but we got really good there at the end," Thorson said. "KKM is back. Any car owner that runs top three in one night is going to be pretty happy. The crew has been working really hard to get us better and better and tonight it showed.

Holly Shelton nearly pulled off one of the major milestones in USAC history that has yet to be checked off: a female USAC National feature winner. Shelton, of Sacramento, CA, took a career-best third in her Keith Kunz-Curb-Agajanian Motorsports/Black & Decker - TRD/Bullet by Spike/Speedway Toyota, joining Sarah McCune and Stephanie Mockler as the third female driver to record multiple top-five finishes in a USAC National Midget event. Shelton finished 5th at Eldora in September of 2016.

Victory lane was a reunion of sorts for the top-three finishers in Saturday night's feature. Shelton, Thorson and Abreu grew up throwing sliders on each other in Outlaw Kart competition at Cycleland Speedway in Oroville, California.

Shelton shared that there wasn't any specific meeting to get the crew's and drivers' attention after a disappointing start to the season by Keith Kunz standards. The team responded by example, and the results indicate that fact with all six of the team's entries finishing within the top-11.

"We stepped up," Shelton said as matter of fact. "Every time we're out there, the crew gives us amazing cars. it's the drivers job to drive them. After last night, we knew we needed a good night."

Michael Pickens maintains a lead of the slimmest of margins heading into Sunday's finale at Kokomo Speedway. He leads Shane Golobic by one and Tyler Courtney by three as the top-five are separated by a mere 12 points. Nine drivers remain mathematically eligible to win Indiana Midget Week: Pickens, Golobic, Courtney, Brady Bacon, Rico Abreu, Justin Grant, Spencer Bayston, Tanner Thorson and Chad Boat.

Contingency award winners Saturday night at Lawrenceburg Speedway include Tanner Carrick (ProSource Fast Qualifier & Indy Race Parts Semi Winner), Rico Abreu (Simpson Race Products 1st Heat Winner), Tyler Courtney (Competition Suspension, Inc. 2nd Heat Winner), Jerry Coons, Jr. (Chalk Stix 3rd Heat Winner), Shane Golobic (KSE Racing Products Hard Charger), Ryan Greth (Wilwood Brakes 13th Place Finisher) and Chad Boat (ProSource Hard Work Award Winner).

COZZE, SCHUTZ AND KYLE LILICK BECAME 16TH, 17TH AND 18TH DIFFERENT WINNERS OUT OF 21 NASCAR RACES PRESENTED THIS SEASON AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. June11, 2017 . . . Three different feature winners entered the record books on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway in their respective divisions in the Whelen Engineering sponsored racing events. The total different feature winners this season, out of 21 feature races presented, now stands at 18.

Veteran campaigner Frank Cozze piloted the Tom Umbenhauer-owned/Harry’s U-Pull-It No. 4 to his first win of the season in the TP Trailers 358 Modified NASCAR 30-lap feature. Cozze, a DIRT Hall of Famer, who had a disappointing finish last week, held off the last lap challenges of two others veterans of the sport Ray Swinehart and Craig Von Dohren to become the seventh different winner in the Modified division.

The BRC NASCAR Late Model division had a fifth different winner. Defending point champion and current point leader Chuck Schutz, who drove Andy Cassel’s car the previous week when the Ty Zeigler-owned No. ONE experienced problems, finished by a comfortable margin over runner-up and last week’s feature winner Ron Kline for his first 25-lap feature win of the season to be the fifth different winner in his normal ride.

Kyle Lilick was sidelined early in the NASCAR Sportsman 25-lap feature last week, but he more than made up for it on his next outing. The younger of the racing Lilick’s in the duo made up of older brother Ryan a two-time winner this year, overtook Jack Butler on the 18th lap and went on to capture his first career victory and become sixth different Sportsman winner of the season.

All feature winners received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers providing they met the requirements and product awards from V.P. Fuels if they run gas and have the proper decals and other specifications.

John Willman put the Dennis Bailey-owned No. 81 into the early lead at the start of the Modified feature with pressure from Colt Harris, Steve Swinehart, Cozze and Ray Swinehart.

By the conclusion of ten laps Harris erased the deficit Willman opened up to challenge him for the top spot.

The pack regrouped when Mike Kellner, who had a strong second place finish the previous week, stopped in the first turn for the 15th lap caution. On the restart Willman and now Cozze lined up side-by-side. When action resumed Cozze got somewhat out of shape. Willman ran over Cozzes’ front end and hit the homestretch infield tire for the yellow putting him out of contention and Cozze was the new leader. Cozze maintained the first spot on the next attempt.

Behind Cozze wheeling and dealing never giving up in their battle for positions were R. Swinehart, Mike Gular, Kevin Hirthler and Harris. In the thick of things for sixth through tenth were Doug Manmiller, Von Dohren, Ryan Watt, Jeff Strunk and Duane Howard.

By the 20th lap the order behind Cozze consisted of R. Swinehart, Von Dohren, Gular, Manmiller and Hirthler with the spots constantly being swapped back and forth.

Harris’ fine run ended when he found himself in the third turn wall bringing out the yellow on the 21st lap. Cozze didn’t falter on the restart leaving R. Swinehart, Hirthler, Von Dohren and Gular in pursuit.

While running third with five laps to go, Hirthler hopped the first turn cushion and lost valuable positions. By the time he got recollected, Von Dohren, Gular and Strunk already passed him.

Jared Umbenhauer, who got into the feature by virtue of winning the consi, and was on the move; set up a one lap shoot-out when he hit the homestretch wall with heavy impact for the final yellow. He was uninjured, but the car sustained considerable damage. Cozze kept the competition at bay on the restart and went on to chalk up his fifth career win at the oval. Chasing him across the line were Swinehart, Von Dohren, Gular and Strunk.

Kenny Gilmore, who was supposed the start fourth in the feature only to be towed off before the event started, Harris and Brett Kressley were the heat winners. Picking up the consi win was Umbenhauer.

Kyle Merkel set the pace for two laps of the Late Model feature before Wayne Pfeil stopped along the backstretch for the yellow. On the restart Merkel went too high off of turn four. Schutz took advantage of the situation and charged into the lead.

With Schutz now showing the way, Kline, Merkel, Steve Todorow and Andy Cassel diced for positions.

The comfortable lead Schutz built up was erased on the 16th lap caution needed when Steve Wilson and Lou Egrie Sr. tangled in turn three. When action went green Kline made a strong bid for first, but in no time Schutz pulled away again.

No one could catch Schutz to challenge him as he pulled into victory lane for his 45th career win trailed by Kline, Todorow, Merkel and Egrie Sr.

Jack Butler took the early lead at the drop of the green in the Sportsman feature with Kyle Lilick putting in his bids for the top spot.

Butler stuck to the high line while K. Lilick ran in the inside groove.

While Butler and Lilick jockeyed for first, behind them Ryan Higgs and Brad Arnold put on quite a dual for third. Waiting in the wings anticipating a false move in hopes of advancement was Ryan Beltz.

By the 18th lap the front runners came upon lap traffic. This aided K. Lilick since coming off turn four he got underneath Butler when Butler had to go up a bit to get around them and Lilick was the new leader.

The leader continued to be K. Lilick until he pulled into the winner’s circle for a well-deserved victory chased across by Butler, Arnold, Brad Grim and Higgs.

K. Lilick, Kurt Bettler and Butler won the heats. Mike Lisowski picked up the consi win.

Justin Peck masters mighty Macon Speedway for Arctic Cat All Star victory

MACON, IL (June 10, 2017) - Becoming the eighth different driver to stand in Macon (IL) Speedway victory lane during Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions competition, Justin Peck is now an Arctic Cat All Star winner, ultimately leading 37 of 40 laps to score a first-ever Series victory and the largest payday of his young career. The Monrovia, Indiana, native, who recently graduated from high school, started sixth on the feature grid and was within striking distance of the top spot by lap three. Impressively enough, Peck earned his way into the Arctic Cat All Star main event by winning his respective heat race - without a nose wing.

“Honestly, this is kind of a shock,” Justin Peck said during his victory lane interview, driver of the Duracoat/Axalta Coatings/Pro Shocks/DRC/No. 5X. “I owe this all to my crew; everyone that is involved with this team. This is such an awesome feeling.”

Paul Nienhiser and Chad Kemenah led the 24 feature starters to green on Saturday night at the “World’s Fastest 1/5-Mile Clay Oval.” Kemenah jumped to the early advantage, followed to the infield flagstand for the first time by Nienhiser and Justin Peck. Despite getting the early jump, Kemenah’s tenure at the top of the running order was short-lived, soon tracked down by Peck. The 18-year-old worked his way into the runner-up position by lap three, eventually driving around Kemenah with a high side hustle move through turns one and two on the following circuit.

Peck maintained his position at the top of the running order for the remaining 36 laps, surviving a total of eight cautions, two of which resulting in red flag conditions, to claim his $5,000 share.

Nienhiser, who battled inside the top-three during much of the 40-lap program, eventually had the opportunity to use traffic as a pick, soon driving under Chad Kemenah at the entrance of turns three and four to take over the runner-up position on lap 24. It was a second consecutive Arctic Cat All Star runner-up finish for the for the Chapin, Illinois, native. Kemenah held on to finish third, followed by Friday night winner Carson Macedo and former NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart.

“You know, I thought we were really good there at the beginning,” Peck explained. “But once the track started to take a little bit of rubber, that’s when I started to get nervous. When you are out in front like that, you obviously can’t tell what is going on behind you. Paul (Nienhiser) showed me his nose there toward the end, so I had to adjust my line a little bit and move down the track. All you can do is try to run in the rubber where you think it’s the best. It all worked out tonight.”

For the first time since 1998, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will invade 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa; the third and final Midwest event of the weekend for “America’s Series,” as well as the first and only visit to The Hawkeye State in 2017. Holmesville, Ohio’s Kenny Jacobs scored the 34 Raceway victory during the Series’ first visit in 1998, one of 98 total Arctic Cat All Star victories for the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee.

34 Raceway will open pit gates at 2:00pm on Sunday, June 11. General admission gates will open to the public at 4:00pm, with racing scheduled to hit the speedway at 7:15pm, sharp. Those seeking additional information pertaining to ticket sales and reserved seating should contact 34 Raceway live on the Web at www.34raceway.com.

Schatz Fires Off His Big Guns at Knoxville Raceway to Join the Ranks of the Winningest Drivers

KNOXVILLE, IA - June 10, 2017 - Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing driver and eight-time World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series Champion Donny Schatz officially joined the ranks of the top-10 winningest drivers at Knoxville Raceway, leading all 25 laps of the Brownells Big Guns Bash night two Feature. The win marks his 25th career win at the 1/2-mile oval, tying him with two-time Track Champion Skip Jackson. It also marks the 10th win of the season for the No. 15 Arctic Cat car.

Much like the previous night, in which Brad Sweet led flag-to-flag, an exciting battle took place behind the leader, resulting in the same three Outlaws to the podium, only slightly rearranged this time with Schatz on top. And he was unusually happy about it.

"We haven't been on pace the last couple months," said Schatz. "You keep looking for little things that aren't right. One thing here. But we found three things. And so, that's why I'm smiling. I'm a happy guy. I got my feel back. I can feel all four corners again, and that's important. These guys have put up with me through some not so good moods the last few months, but it feels good to be back in Victory Lane, especially here at Knoxville, and get that win."

Behind Schatz, David Gravel, Brad Sweet and Ian Madsen fought a tough battled for second and third. A caution on Dakota Hendrickson four laps in gave Madsen the chance he needed to jump past Logan Schuchart, then Daryn Pittman. A second caution - from Jason Sides spinning into the wall in turn one - allowed Gravel to slide inside Sweet, leaving Sweet momentarily at Madsen's mercy as the two exchanged positions a couple of times almost halfway through the Feature. But Sweet prevailed, and with only eight laps to go pressed on Gravel for second as he got caught in lap traffic.

"It hurt me there," said Gravel. "I tried to go under Sides, and he slipped off and kind of caught me up a little bit. I thought that was my only chance to even get close to Donny, but I lost ten car lengths in that corner and never really had a shot at him. We're really happy with how the car is. The track was super super fast tonight. That was a hell of a workout for 25 laps."

Despite the heat and strong winds, the track was in great condition on night two and did not rubber up at all like the previous night.

"Last night the race track was a little bit different," said Schatz. "It got abrasive. It was really slick early. It was hard to get a hold of, so yeah, you try things. You don't get too far away from baseline, but these guys did an incredible job with the race track today. It's miserable and hard to do this in the heat and the wind, and they did an incredible job, got us two grooves, so hats off to the Duncans for that and just a great night."

Unfortunately, Sweet was unable to comment after his win, as the heat and the tough workout left him dehydrated and worn out enough to warrant medical attention.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to action on Tuesday for the Eagle Nationals in Eagle, NE. Tickets are available online. The Series will then continue to Schatz's home state of North Dakota on Friday and Saturday.

Chad Kemenah gets Arctic Cat All Star win number 33 at 34 Raceway

BURLINGTON, IA (June 11, 2017) - Wrapping up a Midwest road trip that resulted in three consecutive podium finishes with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, Alvada, Ohio’s Chad Kemenah is now a three-time Series winner in 2017, this time holding off charges by the “North Pole Nightmare” Bill Balog and the “Madman” Kerry Madsen to claim $5,000 in Burlington, Iowa.

Raising his career win total to 33 with “America’s Series,” Kemenah led all but four circuits during the 30-lap main event on Sunday evening at 34 Raceway, surrendering the top spot to only Bill Balog before regaining command less than five laps later. Balog held on to finish second, followed by Kerry Madsen, Brian Brown and Paul Nienhiser.

“I have to keep winning if I want to keep my son from catching me,” Chad Kemenah said in victory lane regarding his son’s go-kart career. “He’s going to be coming for my job here pretty soon. But really - I can’t say enough about this team. Things are going really well right now and we are all having fun. I have so many people to thank, my brother included. He does a phenomenal job with this car. It’s just him and I out here this weekend, so we’ll definitely be celebrating the entire way home.”

Despite an opening lap caution that halted the Arctic Cat All Star main event, the result of a multiple car incident in turns one and two, as well as a car getting upside-down in turns three and four, Chad Kemenah would go on to lead the feature field to green from the pole position, wasting no time opening his command to nearly a half-straightaway by lap three. Utilizing the very bottom of the 3/8-mile oval, Kemenah reached the back of the running order by lap six, which in turn allowed Ryan Smith and Kerry Madsen to keep the Hunter Racing/DKW Transport/Bonnell’s Rod Shop/No. 10H in reach.

By lap 15, traffic started to intensify for Kemenah, with most of the field that was racing directly in front of him also working the bottom edge of the speedway. Meanwhile, Bill Balog, who restarted sixth on the feature grid after the opening lap tangle, was beginning to make moves all alone on the topside of the speedway; capturing third on lap 14, second on lap 15, and eventually taking command from Kemenah on lap 20, ending a two-lap, side-by-side battle on laps 18 and 19.

Despite Balog’s impressive march forward on the cushion, his command was short-lived, surrendering the lead back to Chad Kemenah on lap 24. The defending Arctic Cat All Star champion went the remaining distance undisturbed, crossing under the final checkers nearly three seconds ahead of Balog and Kerry Madsen.

“I tried not to screw up, but the bottom was just so good tonight,” Bill Balog explained. “We can’t be disappointed with this one. We’ve been running pretty well. We’ll take this and move forward.”

Kemenah’s weekend podium sweep ignited with a third place performance on Friday evening, June 9, at Lincoln (IL) Speedway, followed by a second consecutive third place performance at Macon (IL) Speedway on June 10. The current Series point leader will enter Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket with a 180-point cushion.

“This is a perfect momentum boost for us heading into Ohio Sprint Speedweek,” Chad Kemenah stated. “When you head into Speedweek on a good note, you’re bound to have good things happen to you. We’re all pretty excited to get started.”

Celebrating 35 years in 2017, Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket is next to take center stage on the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions campaign trail, complete with eight events over a nine day stretch beginning with competition at Attica Raceway Park on Friday, June 16. “America’s Series” will visit eight different facilities throughout all four corners of The Buckeye State during the eight-race stretch, each awarding $5,000 top prizes, as well as full points toward the 2017 Arctic Cat All Star championship. A $3,000 point fund will also be distributed amongst the top-ten finishers in the Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket standings.

As an added bonus to race fans who can not attend Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket, six of the eight events will be broadcast live via www.onthecushion.com beginning Friday night at Attica Raceway Park.

Those seeking additional news and notes regarding Ohio Sprint Speedweek should stay tuned online at www.allstarsprint.com. A full preview will be posted in the coming days.

Sheppard Out-Duels Hearn For Five Mile Point Victory

Reigning Series Champion Earns First Win of 2017

KIRKWOOD, NY - June 11, 2017 - Matt Sheppard took the lead from Tyler Siri on lap 16 and then held off polesitter Brett Hearn throughout a flurry of late-race restarts to win the Modified 67 at Five Mile Point Speedway on Sunday night. The Waterloo, NY native had to be strong in all aspects of the race as he raced from the sixth starting position to overtake Siri and never looked back despite Hearn's numerous attempts to take over the top spot.

"This thing was spot on right from the drop of the green," Sheppard said in Victory Lane. "I could just drive it straight around the racetrack like I was on the highway. It was just great from lap one. I didn't really like seeing all those caution, but just tried to kept it straight and luckily kept enough tire and brought it back to Victory Lane."

Sheppard's first win this season was also the 48th of his career with the Super DIRTcar Series and it was one he had to earn. Jimmy Phelps completed the podium behind Hearn.

"It feels great," Sheppard said. "We had that record-breaking season last year where it seemed like we were winning everywhere. We had a couple of good runs (to start the year), but it's definitely nice to get the first series win of the season. Hopefully we can keep rolling from here."

Hearn and Siri started on the front row for the 67-lap main event. Siri used the outside lane to lead the opening circuit by a bumper before clearing Hearn for the top spot.

The top four cars - Siri, Hearn, Sheppard and Stewart Friesen - raced nose-to-tail and side-by-side throughout the first 15 laps without any driver able to distance themselves. It led to a three-wide battle for the lead off corner two on lap 14 before Sheppard took the inside lane from Siri and wrestled the point position away on lap 16.

Sheppard caught lapped traffic on lap 21 with Hearn lurking closely behind, but was saved from dealing with the slower cars by the second caution of the race on the same lap. Friesen used the ensuing restart to dart past Hearn and Siri for second, which allowed Sheppard to open a five car-length advantage while the battled raged on behind him.

Just as Sheppard caught traffic again on lap 31, a caution flag waved for a stopped Mike Mahaney in turn four. Sheppard made the most of that restart and opened a 1.6-second advantage over Friesen at the halfway mark.

At lap 40, Friesen's momentum withered as Hearn retook the second position and both Billy Decker and Phelps were able to push the No.44 to the back-end of the top-five.

With 20 laps to go, a number of drivers began to experience problems with tire wear and a series of cautions slowed the race as drivers fell off the pace with flat tires, including both Decker and Siri who were destined for top-five finishes. Sheppard, however, had no issues outrunning Hearn, even on the final restart with three laps to go. Hearn kept pace and stayed within a car length of Sheppard, but couldn't gather enough momentum to make a serious challenge for the lead.

"I started getting a vibration in the right-rear," Hearn said of the closing laps. "I thought we were getting a flat tire and something was going bad. It must have just been the tire wearing out. I settled into second and running just partial throttle I was able to run with him. When the track rubbered up a little bit on the bottom at the end, he was in the catbird seat."

For Phelps, the third-place finish was his best this season and his second top-five of 2017. It was a much needed strong run for the Baldwinsville, NY pilot, who struggled in the series last race at Bridgeport Speedway.

"We could have been a little better in qualifying to give ourselves a better starting position, but other than that I thought the car was really good," Phelps said. "By the time we got to third we were out of tire and trying to stay off of it the best we could and try to save it for the end. The car just came to life in the Feature."

Sheppard's win extends his point lead atop the Super DIRTcar Series standings to 41 markers over Hearn and 53 ahead of Decker. The series will be back in action for its fourth race of the season at Outlaw Speedway on Tuesday, June 20.

The night's Pole Position Raceway Fast Qualifier was Max McLaughlin who also won the night's first heat and finished fourth in the Feature. Keith Flach rounded out the top-five with his best finish this season.

Tim Fuller, Billy Decker and Larry Wight also picked up heat race victories while Billy Dunn claimed the win in the 10-lap Last Chance Qualifier.

Mahaney and Rich Scagliotta were the drivers eligible for the 811 Dig Safely New York redraw bonus if either could win from the 8th or 11th starting positions. Scagliotta finished 12th while Mahaney was 13th.

BACON BRINGS THE 63 BACK TO EASTERN STORM WIN COLUMN IN OPENER AT GRANDVIEW

By: Richie Murray - USAC Media

Bechtelsville, PA....June 13, 2017 - The sight of the black Dooling/Hayward Motorsports No. 63 winning an Eastern Storm feature has become oh, so familiar over the last couple of seasons.

Bryan Clauson raced to three wins in the five Pennsylvania starts with the car in 2016, including one at Grandview Speedway. When the calendar turned its page to 2017, there was no better tandem to build upon the groundwork that had been laid than the pairing of the defending Eastern Storm championship team and the reigning USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car driver titlist, Brady Bacon.

On Tuesday night, Bacon prevailed in a spirited late-race battle with C.J. Leary in which he took over the point in lapped traffic with three laps remaining to score his first USAC National Sprint Car victory in nearly a year and the first for the Dooling/Hayward team since Clauson's 41st and final victory at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway last July.

"This one is really special," Bacon said. "Bryan and I both liked to come out here. The fans were always great. He was really good out here. Hopefully, we're making him proud that we're out here and got it back in victory lane. I wish he was still here and maybe I wasn't in this car, but that's just the way it is."

The race honoring the memory of 2009 Grandview USAC Sprint Car feature winner "The Rocket" Jesse Hockett was the launching pad for the 11th annual edition of Eastern Storm.

The 40-lap distance for the event was the first of four of the super-sized length this season as the packed Grandview grandstands witnessed the second largest ever car count (34) for an Eastern Storm event and the most since the Grandview opener in 2008.

On the start, pole sitter Leary was the first to reach the opening corner where he would immediately establish a five-car-length lead over series point leader Justin Grant in the early-going.

Following a lap 10 yellow for a Kyle Robbins turn four spin, Leary picked up right where he left off, quickly building his lead to a half-straightaway by the midway point when Chandler Leiby smacked the turn one concrete and flipped nose-to-tail several times against the outside wall. The Carlisle, PA driver was shaken up, but managed to exit the car under his own power.

During the lengthy, open red flag, fifth-running Bacon and crew decided not to make any radical changes to their piece. Instead, the focus was placed on taking off on the restart.

"I felt like we were getting better and better compared to everybody else," Bacon explains. "We didn't really change anything. We made some small adjustments and made sure everything was right. We discussed what we were going to do on the restart because they were very crucial."

Bacon set forth on the restart, moving to third on lap 21 and to second a lap later on the 22nd circuit when he zeroed in on Leary for the race lead. Bacon had the bottom working like clockwork as he rode the low line to the lead on lap 25 past Leary.

"We had to wait around at the beginning and let the track come to us," Bacon relays. "We were pretty tight. When the top started slowing down, I got rolling on the bottom. That's how we got past everybody. You get to take your time a little bit more and pick your moves more carefully."

Leary refused to stray too far behind Bacon throughout the second half as he stayed loyal to the cushion. Yet, Bacon began to migrate to the top in turns one and two for a brief period with ten to go.

"I saw him a couple times out of the corner of my eye getting into three," Bacon recalls. "I felt like I was slower in one and two, so I moved up and felt we were pretty good up there. I was just kind of trying to block the other lane."

Leary's lane wasn't completely shut down as he showed no quit and his ring around the top began to pay dividends when he visibly inched closer with less than a handful of laps remaining. On lap 35, Leary pushed the cushion with his right rear less than a foot from the outside wall off the exit. A lap later, Bacon clipped an infield tire between turns three and four that slowed his momentum as the high line propelled Leary right to Bacon as the pair posed for a high-speed photo-finish shot at the stripe. Leary cleared him at the end of the straightaway with his second career series victory just within reach.

"I really thought we were going to be able to cruise on the bottom," Bacon relayed. "He must've turned it up on the top and got rolling pretty good. He got back by us and I had to start searching around."

With three laps to go, Leary and Bacon encountered the lapped car of Tony DiMattia. Bacon tucked a nose to the inside of DiMattia off the fourth corner as Leary remained up top. As the three were staggered in three distinct lines on the front straight, Leary's momentum was stifled when DiMattia switched to the cushion entering the first turn, forcing Leary to get on the binders.

From there, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma's Bacon was able to stretch out his advantage, leading the final three laps to score his first Eastern Storm victory since 2014 in his Dooling-Hayward/B & H Contractors - Dooling Machine/Spike/Stanton Mopar ahead of Leary, Chris Windom, Kevin Thomas, Jr. and Justin Grant.

Though a season-best second-place run for C.J. Leary is nothing to shake a stick at, disappointment was an understatement for the Greenfield, Indiana driver who led a race-high 26 laps.

"Once Brady showed (DiMattia) a nose, he came right up into my lane," Leary believes. "Once I got around Brady, I don't think he could've passed us back in the short number of laps left."

"The first 20 laps, I felt like we had a really dominant car. It was just excellent. The car was on a rail," Leary continues. "Under the open red, we didn't change anything. We felt like we had a really good car and didn't need to make any adjustments. When it went back green, we were good, but yellow after yellow kept hurting us because our car was better on long green flag runs. Brady was really good on the bottom and once he got around me, I started ripping the top and never gave up on it."

Contingency award winners Tuesday night at Grandview Speedway include Chase Stockon (ProSource Fast Qualifier), Isaac Chapple (Simpson Race Products 1st Heat Winner), Tyler Courtney (Competition Suspension, Inc. 2nd Heat Winner), Aaron Farney (Chalk Stix 3rd Heat Winner), Chris Windom (Indy Race Parts 4th Heat Winner & KSE Racing Products Hard Charger) and Thomas Meseraull (Wilwood Brakes 13th Place Finisher).

BRADY BACON SIZZLES ON HOT THUNDER ON THE HILL NIGHT; DUANE HOWARD TOPS GRANDVIEW MODS; EASTERN STORM ROLLS ONTO LINCOLN SPEEDWAY WEDNESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 14

BECHTELSVILLE, PA (JUNE 13, 2017) – It was a hot NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series night at Grandview Speedway and a packed house witnessed Broken Arrow, Oklahoma’s Brady Bacon collecting the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series win, claiming the $6,000 to win Jesse Hockett Classic. Oley, PA’s Duane Howard claimed the win in the 30 lap $3,000 to win NASCAR 358 Modified feature, an event presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings.

This year’s Jesse Hockett Classic marked Bacon’s 18th career USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series and his first NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series win. A field of thirty-two USAC sprints cars and thirty-two 358 Modifieds took part in the program. Even with extremely warm temperatures and a 50% chance of rain, the show did go on.

Greenfield, IN’s CJ Leary charged from the top starting spot battling with current USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series Point Leader, Justin Grant. Leary and Grant pulled away from the 23-car starting field gaining a sizable advantage before a lap 7 yellow.

Leary maintained control on the restart, with Grant hot on his heels and Chad Boespflug close for third. But as the leaders pulled away from the pack, a three-car battle for fourth-place ensued as Bacon challenged Dave Darland and Kevin Thomas, Jr.

Just prior to half-way a turn-1 flip ended Carlisle, PA’s Chandler Leiby run. The red flag for Leiby, and an incident grandstand side halted the action for a lengthy period of time.

The open red, allowed crews to adjust their cars moving furiously around the open-wheel beasts and preparing for the second half of the feature event.

On the restart, Leary held the top spot, but all eyes were on Brady Bacon. Bacon charged three-wide with Grant and Kevin Thomas, Jr.

Bacon overtook Leary holding the inside line on lap 24 but Leary held on rim-riding the top side. Bacon charged alongside Leary as the two diced side-by-side for nearly 10 laps. Leary overtook Bacon with four-laps remaining, but an altercation with a lapped car slowed Leary and gave Bacon the opportunity to pounce forward for the $6,000 victory. Leary settled for second, Chris Windom finished in a hard-fought third place, Kevin Thomas Jr. came home in fourth and Justin Grant finished fifth.

The Eastern Storm continues on Wednesday at the Lincoln Speedway featuring the USAC Non-wing sprints cars and the 358 wing sprint cars. Gates open at 5 PM with race time set for 7:30 PM.

Oley, PA’s Duane Howard claimed his 10th Thunder on the Hill Racing Series win leading the Norm’s Save Station No. 357 to the checkered flag in the non-stop 30-lap 358 Modified feature event.

Mike Gular quickly took the lead from his front row starting position and battled back-and-forth with John Willman. Howard moved into the second-position on lap nine with Craig VonDohren and Jeff Strunk quickly on his tail.

The leaders hit lapped traffic on the 14th circuit, and Howard closed quickly on Gular as VonDohren hammerd the cushion around the top side. Howard’s No. 357 slipped inside Gular with 10-laps remaining and VonDohren followed closely winding up the top side of the 1/3-mile oval.

Howard held on for the win, VonDohren came home second, Gular third, Jeff Strunk in the fourth position and Ryan Godown rounded out the top five finishers.

The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series returns to action on Tuesday, July 4 for Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek. The 410 Sprint Cars compete in a double header with the NASCAR 358 Modifieds. Gates open at 4 PM with race time set for 7:30 PM.

ASCS National Sprint Series

Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Perfect At Lucas Oil ASCS Devil's Bowl Summer Nationals

MESQUITE, Texas (June 13, 2017) Four ASCS sanctioned visits to the Devil's Bowl Speedway in 2017, and just as many wins to show for it, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. rebounded from a weekend of DNF finishes with a dominating performance in Round 3 of the 2017 ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek, leading non-stop in the 44th Devil's Bowl Summer Nationals with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

"We had to do some frame repair to this thing after I got on my lid on Friday night, but I've got to thank Triston Dycus. Whatever it takes to keep us going, he does what he has to do. He was supposed to race tonight, so I feel bad because I'm probably half the reason he didn't race, but you can't replace friends like that," said Hafertepe of his sixth National Tour victory of the season.
Career victory No. 5 for Sam Hafertepe, Jr. at the Devil's Bowl Speedway since 2011, Sam has eight overall ASCS wins on the 2017 season.

"I know what my car can do here. I feel like I've made a million laps here and it showed tonight, but my hats off to my crew. I know I chew their asses a lot, but I want them to be perfect. We try to be perfect every night, and they've busted hard the past two days, so this win is for them."
Running to a Heat Race win, the Hwy. 79 Collision No. 15h made the redraw with a runner-up starting spot for the A-Feature. Rolling green next to Dalton Stevens, the race into the first two turns when the way of Hafertepe.

With a nearly straightaway advantage built within the first five laps, the back of the field was already in view. Picking his way through slower traffic, the tiptoe moves seemed to do little to slow the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour point's leader.

Slowed once on Lap 15 for Justin Henderson who came to a stop just off the top of the third turn with a broken Sway Bar, the lineup found a pair of lapped cars between Sam and second place, Aaron Reutzel.
Running away again at the drop of the green, Sam was uncontested with a nearly straightaway advantage at the drop of the checkered flag.

Racing for the runner-up spot on the closing lap, things got a little more than close between Dalton Stevens and Aaron Reutzel as wheel to wheel contact between the two sent the No. 87 off the track in the first and second turns, allowing the No. 99x to take second in his first Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour A-Feature start.

Matt Covington also benefited from the contact to take over the final podium step as Reutzel was shuffled back to fourth. From 10th, Seth Bergman made his way through the field to complete the top-five.
Advancing 12 positions after having to race through the BMRS B-Feature, El Paso's John Carney II was the CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night. Skylar Gee crossed seventh with Blake Hahn eighth from the 16th starting spot. Ninth went to Dustin Morgan with Wayne Johnson crossing tenth.

Round three of the ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek brought 31 drivers to the Devil's Bowl Speedway with four Heat Race wins going to Aaron Reutzel, Matt Covington, Martin Edwards, and Sam Hafertepe, Jr. A single B-Main went to Johnny Herrera. One provisional start was used by Jake Greider.

The 2017 ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek and Bob Westphal Memorial Cup continues on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla. Hot Laps begin at 7:45 P.M. (CDT). Larson Parks It at Eagle Raceway

Stenhouse Jr. Wood Racing picks up first Outlaws win

EAGLE, NE - June 14, 2017- After leading 29 of the 30-lap Feature, Daryn Pittman couldn't withstand the late-race charge from Kyle Larson and Shane Stewart. Larson whipped around the top-side of the high-banked third-mile track to go by Pittman en route to win the return of the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series at Eagle Raceway.

When Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series superstars Kyle Larson and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. team up, you get one potent team. During an off day from NASCAR, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. co-owner of Stenhouse Jr. Wood Racing decided to put Monster Energy Cup Series standout, Kyle Larson in a second entry for the Eagle Nationals at Eagle Raceway.

Good friends away from the track, Larson and Stenhouse Jr. also share a special bond, having been really close friends with the late-Bryan Clauson.

Stenhouse Jr. during the off season teamed up with Matt Wood to form Stenhouse Jr. Wood Racing - the team that Clauson raced with before his tragic death in 2016.

When the 24-car field got the green flag, it was Daryn Pittman that got the jump and rocketed out to the lead - a lead that he had to relinquish because of a yellow flag for a spinning Paul McMahan and Jason Johnson. The field would have a complete restart with the yellow coming out before a lap could be completed.

Once the field got back going again, Pittman once again found himself out front, holding off eight-time and defending World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion, Donny Schatz.

Having worked his way up from the sixth starting-spot to inside the top-five at the time of a red flag on Lap 12. It was the No. 2KS and No. 82 who got upside-down in Turn 3; both drivers were able to walk away unscathed.

Back under green, Larson Marks Racing's Shane Stewart and Kyle Larson put the pressure on second place Donny Schatz. With under 10-laps remaining, both Stewart and Larson were able to get by and set their sights on the leader, Pittman.

"I got racing Shane [Stewart] pretty hard - I have fun racing him," said Kyle Larson.

Navigating their way through lap traffic through Turns 3 and 4 with less than three laps to go, Stewart stuck to the bottom of the track while Larson went to the top. As the two entered Turn 1, they banged wheels; Larson was able to gain the second position.

With his sights clearly set on the leader, Larson kept his No. 17K wound up on the top-side of the Eagle Raceway to get by Pittman to lead the white flag lap. Larson would go on to win

"We are there [close to a win], unfortunately we just need to finish it out," said Daryn Pittman. "Second sucks. We haven't been in the position all year and here we were. [Kyle] ran a good race and we just got beat."

Clearly a special win for Larson and the Stenhouse Jr. Wood Racing team as Larson paid homage to an old friend, Bryan Clauson in Victory Lane.

"I can't believe I parked it here, it's pretty cool. I think this is this team's first win, so happy to be a part of that."

Larson joked in Victory Lane that he had three crew chief's at Eagle, Ricky Stehouse Jr., Tyler Swank and David Fero, a crew member on his No. 42 NASCAR entry.

This win marks the first Outlaws win for the newly formed Stenhouse Jr. Wood Racing. This is Larson's firth overall World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win; first since 2013 and his first Outlaws win outside of his home state of California.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series is back in action on Friday, June 16 when the Series visits River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D. The Series will then continue onto Red River Valley Speedway on Saturday, June 17. For tickets, visit WorldofOutlaws.com/tickets.

Hafertepe Continues Lucas Oil ASCS Domination At Lawton Speedway

LAWTON, Okla. (June 14, 2017) Sam Hafertepe, Jr. continues to show no signs of slowing down as the Keith Dobbs Motorsports No. 15h unmercifully dominated Wednesday's Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network Speedweek stop at the Lawton Speedway.

"This thing was awesome," said Sam of his seventh National Tour score of 2017. "I don't care if we win it by five seconds, or a tenth of a second, as long as we get the "W", that's all the really matters and when a car is as good as this, it's fun because you can take you time and be smooth rather than rip it too hard."

Referencing his 5.291 second advantage at the drop of the checkered flag, Hafertepe was challenged once during the 25 lap feature event with Justin Henderson leading the field through the first two turns, before slamming the wall off the fourth turn as Sam rolled by for the lead.

"I knew he [Henderson] was going to be running hard there to and stay ahead of us. I got a good run off turn-two on the top and just decided to drive in real hard on him and see how hard he'd run it, and he just went a little too hard and hit the wall. We've run here a lot and it usually goes away coming off of four so if I pressured him, that might happen but I didn't expect him to slam the wall like that," said Hafertepe of the opening lap battle.

Single file on a Lap 2 restart, the green was short lived with no laps completed. Having gone into the work area with a flat right rear, Justin Henderson made it back to competition with Wayne Johnson and Blake Hahn also having to work on their machines.

Green for four more rotations, the caution again blinked on for a pair of cars stopped atop the second turn. Slowed once more near the race's half way point, Hafertepe quickly put distance over the field on every restart.

Working traffic with less than 10 laps to run, the advantage for the No. 15h stated at roughly a straightaway as the race from third through fifth saw Josh Baughman, Jason Barney, and 18th starting Aaron Reutzel trade slide-jobs and three wide passes several times before Reutzel moved to the show position. Tracking down second running Alex Sewell, the closing laps advanced Aaron to the runner-up spot for the night's CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night. Aaron also jumped from fifth in tour standings to third.
Side by side at the line, Josh Baughman edged Sewell for third as the pair made contact at the line with Alex tipping over to draw the red flag. With the leader taking the checkered flag, the race was official with the finish split between the four drivers who crossed and the running order on the white flag lap.
Channin Tankersley, with a fresh engine under the hood, moved up two spots to fifth with Jason Barney ending his night sixth. Coming from 14th, El Paso's John Carney II advanced to seventh with Johnny Herrera eighth. Matt Covington and Joe Wood, Jr. completed the top-ten.

The appearance of 41 drivers at the Lawton Speedway saw five Heat Races going to Jason McDougal, Dustin Morgan, Brad Queen, Alex Sewell, and Josh Baughman. The 40 plus car field brought about Qualifiers which were topped by Channin Tankersley, Wayne Johnson, and Sam Hafertepe, Jr. A pair of B-Features went Skylar Gee and Aaron Reutzel. Three Provisionals were used by Harli White, Kyle Bellm, and Jared Sewell.
The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Networks rolls to Round 5 of the ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek on Thursday, June 15 at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. Racing begins at 8:00 P.M. (CDT).

AMSOIL USAC NON WING SPRINTS

THOMAS “T-MEZ” MESERAULL POCKETS $6,000 IN LINCOLN SPEEDWAY AMSOIL USAC EASTERN STORM

Abbottstown, PA June 14, 2017 . . .“This 27 car was on fire tonight”, commented feature winner Thomas “T-Mez” Meseraull in the Lincoln Speedway victory lane Wednesday night. This was the second race of the 2017 Amsoil USAC Non-Wing Eastern Storm and “T-Mez” out-classed the twenty-eight car field. “Special thanks to Gene Franckowiak, Sean Michael and the entire Heffner team for this great car tonight and it’s exciting to win here in Pennsylvania”, said a joyful Meseraull who made the trip from his hometown of San Jose, California. In the 20 lap 358 Sprint feature, Brie Hershey took the win leading wire-to-wire over a challenging Adrian Shaffer.

The USAC Amsoil non-wing sprints saw Justin Grant set fast time, stopping the clock with a time of 15.847. Shane Golobic, Chris Windom and Aaron Farney were heat race winners as Robert Ballou took the win the B Main.

At the start of the feature, Jarett Andretti set the pace for the first five circuits but all eyes were on Thomas “T-Mez” Meseraull. By lap seven, “T-Mez” was the new leader. A caution on lap eight brought the field together for the final time, as the race go non-stop to the checker flag.

On the restart, “T-Mez” ran to hide from the rest of the field, leaving Andretti and Chad Boespflug to battle for second. By the halfway mark, “T’Mez” had check out with Andretti and Boespflug still in a battle for second followed by Kevin Thomas Jr and Chris Windom.

“T-Mez” was just awesome threading his way through lapped traffic. The battle for second continued but now Kevin Thomas was racing in third by lap seventeen.

Thomas pulled a few slide-jobs on Andretti but with each attempt, Andretti held on to the runner-up spot.

With the checker flag waiving, T-Mez was all alone to collect the $6,000 first place prize money in the 30 lap feature. Andretti finished second followed by Kevin Thomas Jr., Chad Boespflug and Chris Windom.

A field of twenty-eight 358 Sprints competed in heat race qualifying events with victories going to Phil Walter, Adrian Shaffer and Doug Hammaker as Todd Rittenhouse took the win in the B Main.

In the twenty lap 358 Sprint feature Brie Hersey immediately took the lead from her front row starting position. Hershey immediately had to deal with a challenging Adrian Shaffer with Ashley Cappetta making up the top three. Phil Walter was working his way to the front racing in third by lap five.

Hershey ran a flawless race shaking off a determined Shaffer with each lap. At halfway the top five remained unchanged with countless shuffling for positions taking place in the middle of the field. Shaffer again began to reel in the leader but Hershey was not about to hand over the lead. Meanwhile, Phil Walter was closing in on the leaders and now Brent Shearer was in the hunt.
